clip_image001

If you’re building or integrating the Oracle Applications Cloud or building SaaS through PaaS, use the User Experience Rapid Development Kit laid out here to get the guidance you need and point you to the right tools to use.

The Oracle Applications User Experience team has released a User Experience Rapid Development Kit on simplified user interface (UI), the same user experience design in Oracle Applications Cloud release 8. The kit is designed to help Oracle ADF developers get up to speed quickly so they can start designing and building the Oracle Applications Cloud simplified UIs, which are the tablet-friendly UIs for Oracle Sales Cloud and Oracle HCM Cloud, in a matter of hours.

The User Experience Rapid Development Kit contains the following tools:

  • Coded ADF page templates.
  • Coding tips from Oracle’s developers.
  • ADF screen overlays showing the use of components in the simplified UI.
  • An eBook on user experience (UX) design patterns and guidelines(right), and example wireframe stencils of page types and components in Microsoft Visio and Balsamiq Mockups formats.
  • Sample wireframe of a simplified UI page flow.

Simplified UI in Oracle Applications Cloud

The Simplified User Experience Design Patterns for the Oracle Applications Cloud Service eBook has been published recently. The free eBook provides the user experience design patterns that Oracle uses to build simplified user interfaces (UIs). Read more about it on the Usable Apps blog, or download it directly at tinyurl.com/SimplifiedUI.  You’ll also find a new article on the Usable Apps website about extensibility in the simplified UI: "Making the Complex Simple: Extensibility and Customization in the Oracle Applications Cloud." Read and learn more about how easy extensibility aligns with the overall Oracle Applications Cloud’s user experience strategy of simplification.
ABOUT RELEASE 8: Take a look at these recent blog posts to find out what analysts and others are saying about the usability they see in Release 8.

And several videos about the simplified UI in Release 8 are now available:

Learn more about Simplified UI for Oracle Cloud Applications

Visit the Voice of User Experience, or VoX, blog for a new post about the strategy behind Oracle’s Human Capital Management (HCM) simplified UI. Learn what’s new from the Oracle HCM Cloud UIApplications User Experience team in Release 7, and find links to new video demos on simplified UI for self-service users and managers.

Floyd Teter, of EiS Technologies and an Oracle ACE Director, also writes about simplified UI and Oracle Fusion Applications HCM in his recent blog post, “Oracle Fusion HCM - The Kettle Is Beginning To Boil.”
There are also a few new posts about Oracle Sales Cloud, such as a post  on the Oracle Applications Blog called “Wow Sales Managers and Reps with An Unmatched User Experience.” A separate post published on VoX last month about Oracle Sales Cloud focuses on what’s new with simplified UI in Release 7.

Also on VoX, Oracle partner Anne Meyer, of MIPRO Consulting LLC, talks about seeing the direction of the Oracle user experience, including simplified UI, in “Partner Gives a Thumbs-Up to Insight on Oracle User Experience.” She says, “I’m anxious for these products to make it to the marketplace. Some may be game-changing for Oracle, and how people view Oracle products.”

Exploring new user experience concepts
Oracle invests a great deal in creating a user experience for its applications that empowers customers to be more productive and efficient. One way that investment is made is by exploring new technologies and looking for ways to use them so that the Oracle user experience continues to evolve. Much of that research takes place among the ranks of the Oracle Applications User Experience (UX) team.

Recent posts on the Usable Apps blog and on TheAppsLab blog look at what and how members of the Applications UX team are exploring new concepts. We invite you to join the conversation! Tell us about your experiences with new technology, and how you think they could be used. To read more about what we’ve found, head over to the Usable Apps blog for new posts on Voice, social network integration, and Google Glass. Then check out Jake Kuramoto’s new post about exploring new concepts on TheAppsLab blog.

Support for building your own good usability practices
Visit the Voice of User Experience, or VoX, blog for a new post from Misha Vaughan, an Oracle Applications User Experience director, to see what she writes about “Six Things You Can Do Today to Jump-Start Your User Experience for Enterprise Applications.” Her post tells you how to build in good usability practices, even on a small budget.

#3) UX Direct gets a new look: Check the UX Direct blog to find out what’s new with UX Direct and to see how the site that provides user experience guidance has changed.
#4) Usability for developers: Oracle ACE Ahmed Aboulnaga of Raastech writes about usability and Oracle’s investment in user experience in the most recent digital edition of Oracle Scene from the UK Oracle User Group. “Usability – Ignored by Developers and Undervalued by Managers” is geared toward a developer audience, but hits a design audience with equal force. (Be patient -- this link takes a bit.)

Tablet design guide, Endeca patterns now available

UX Direct, an Oracle program that offers consultants, partners, and customers the same scientifically proven and reusable user experience best practices that Oracle uses to build Oracle Applications, recently added links to a new design guide for creating tablet-based solutions for enterprise applications, and to the recently published Endeca User Interface Design Pattern Library.

The tablet design guide is available from the UX Direct Home page. Tap the button under “Latest patterns & tools” for “Oracle Applications UX Tablet Guide.” It provides basic help for designers, developers, and project managers trying to approach tablet design and testing from an enterprise point of view. To hear what developers are saying about it, follow the links from this post on the User Experience Assistance blog.

The newly released Endeca User Interface Design Pattern Library is also available from the UX Direct Home page and from a post on the User Experience Assistance blog. It describes principled ways to solve common user interface (UI) design problems related to search, faceted navigation, and discovery.
