Supercomputing '06: Let The Games Begin!

Supercomputing, the largest annual technical conference and vendor exhibition, begins next week in Tampa, Florida. As usual, Sun will have a large presence at the show, including a 50' x 50' booth with lots of demos and hardware. Check out a booth preview here.

Sun also hosts an Sun HPC Consortium meeting the weekend prior to Supercomputing. This year, it will be held at the Westin Innisbrook Golf Resort in Palm Harbor. In fact, I am sitting on the patio of one of their clubhouses as I write this.

The Consortium meeting typically draws between 100 and 200 Sun customers who spend the weekend with us. The agenda includes talks by both Sun technologists as well as customers and it is a wonderful opportunity on the one hand for customers to hear what Sun is doing and where we are going, and on the other hand for Sun employees to talk directly with customers in both group and individual settings. Every Consortium meeting I've attended has been a worthwhile and high-energy event. I plan to blog the customer talks at the Consortium meeting as I did last year.

As part of SC06 proper, don't miss the extensive Open MPI presence at the show. There will be Open MPI talks at many of the member exhbiit booths during the course of the show , including some iPod nano giveaways. There will be a talk titled Sun, Open MPI, and the Open Source Community in the Sun booth on Tuesday, Nov 14th at 3pm. See this page for a complete schedule of talks and giveaways.

Another event to note is the OpenMP Birds of a Feather session that will be held on Tuesday, Nov 14th from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. The OpenMP Board of Directors will also be holding one of its in-person Board meetings during the show.

As usual, Supercomputing promises to be both an exhausting and energizing event. Let the games begin!
