Siebel Mobile Web Client is now enabled for the Oracle Database Standard Edition 2
The existing Siebel Mobile Web Client (a.k.a. Siebel Remote) will transition from Oracle XE as the local database to Oracle Database Standard Edition 2 (Oracle SE2) with the latest Siebel CRM 20.8 Release Update and subsequent releases. This will be transparent for our existing customers using Siebel Remote as the underlying database will be replaced without affecting any functionality for end users.
There are no license implications for customers to use Oracle SE2 as long as it is being used for Siebel Remote.
Planning the Transition from Oracle XE
Oracle XE is no longer supported for any patches or updates, it is being deprecated and replaced with Oracle SE2. Siebel CRM Innovation Pack 2015 or earlier uses Sybase SQL Anywhere as the local database for Siebel Remote and Siebel Tools; this will no longer be supported from June 2022 and all customers using Siebel Remote on these older releases are advised to start planning their upgrade ASAP to continue to get Oracle Support.
Innovation Pack 2015
Customers deployed with Siebel CRM Innovation Pack 2015 or earlier, who use SQL Anywhere for Siebel Tools and Siebel Remote, will need to plan their upgrade as soon as possible to ensure that they continue to get support from Oracle. Oracle will no longer support SQL Anywhere for Siebel Tools, Remote and Sample Database from June 2022 onwards. After the upgrade, Siebel Remote users will use Oracle SE2 as the local database and Siebel Web Tools we be the default development solution, connecting to the server if required.
Innovation Pack 2016
Customers deployed with Siebel CRM Innovation Pack 2016, who use Oracle XE for Siebel Tools, Siebel Remote and Sample Database, will need to perform the upgrade to the latest version of Siebel CRM to continue to get support from Oracle. Oracle will no longer provide any fixes on Oracle XE. After the upgrade, Siebel Remote users will use Oracle SE2 as the local database and Siebel Web Tools we be the default development solution, connecting to the server if required.
Innovation Pack 2017 and above
Customers deployed with Siebel CRM Innovation Pack 2017 and above, will apply the latest Release Update (20.8 onwards) and the local database for Siebel Remote will be replaced with Oracle SE2. There will be no impact on Siebel Tools as Siebel Web Tools is used for development and connects to the server database. You will need to run the remote processes e.g. generating new database and database extract for end users.

Table 1: Recommended transition paths
Installing and Enabling Oracle SE2
The Oracle SE2 installer is invoked by the Siebel Remote Client installer as Oracle SE2 is packaged with Siebel CRM deliverables making it easier for customers to deploy Siebel Remote with Oracle SE2.
Figure 1: Siebel Remote installation
Oracle SE2 requires 2 GB of RAM on the workstation and it is advisable for customers to test the performance of the Siebel Remote Client in their environments. We have seen optimal performance of Siebel Remote with 8 GB of RAM on laptops.
After applying the Siebel CRM 20.8 Release Update and above, on the server, customers will need to run “gennewdb” for generating the new database and “dbxtract” for every user. Once the update for Siebel Remote client is deployed at user’s workstation, they will be able to initialize their local database.
