Achieving Digital Transformation with Oracle's Siebel CRM

Siebel CRM in the Cloud - 16.0 now available

John Bedford
Director, Product Strategy

With the announcement earlier this year that Siebel CRM is now available in the Oracle Marketplace on Oracle Public Cloud, the team have added our latest Innovation Pack release to the Marketplace as well. Both 15.0 (IP 2015) and 16.0 (IP 2016) are available to our customers.

Big deal right? well yes it is a big deal for our customers and time to address the elephant in the room!.

Siebel CRM is now an application made available without further capital expenditure outlay, leveraging existing licenses, that can now run on a Cloud platform with an operating expense cost. You no longer have to worry about extensive hardware upgrades. If you need to expand the footprint of your application, this can also be done simply, or perhaps a hybrid platform approach is better for you? no problem either - you could just decide to deploy your UAT or Beta builds in the Cloud.

Siebel CRM in the Cloud also adopts the same incremental patching approach - did you know with our 14.x release we distributed 18 large patch sets and in 15.x we've already delivered over 12 patch sets. Our customers that take the agile patching approach with our monthly patch sets, rather than a 'big bang' upgrade strategy really see the benefit and lower impact to their deployment.

We are continuing our journey to make the Siebel CRM application radically more cost effective for the many large organizations around the world for which Siebel CRM is a core success component and business critical system.

    Ajay,

Siebel CRM in the Cloud, is not a new Siebel CRM product, but its the provisioning of Siebel CRM applications on Cloud platforms. This applies to existing Siebel CRM deployments that can be moved onto Cloud infrastructure, and also to new customers purchasing Siebel CRM who prefer a Cloud infrastructure platform.

    Hi John,

We are planning to deploy Siebel IP 16 to Oracle Cloud in very near future. We have steps/Bookshelfs available for Deploying to Cloud. We are not able to find details for development. I wanted to know below things regrading development.

    1. Do we have tools after deployed to Cloud?
    2. How check in,Check out, Siebel Repository migration to do?
    3. How to do development in the cloud environment.
    a. How to create new BC, BO, Link,BS etc.
    b. If I want to create a new WSDL for external integration, who to create it?
    c. Any Siebel configuration and integration task which is associated with generating new WSDL?
    4. How will the new WSDL be deployed on the cloud server?
    5. How to migrate development WSDL to QA and Production environment?
    6. How to build and use RESTful service in Siebel IP16?

If you have any supporting document Please share. Thanks in advance.

    Regards,
    Krishna

    Krishna,

    To answer your questions;

    1. Do we have tools after deployed to Cloud?
A: Same tools available as with On Prem. Moving Siebel to OCI cloud does not change how it is deployed or tools available from a Siebel perspective.
    2. How check in,Check out, Siebel Repository migration to do?
A: Exactly the same as it is in On Prem. The one exception is that this is via public web unless you have deployed the Fast Connect service as well so recommend a Windows Server in the same OCI environment for development work so check in/check out is not happening through the public web
    3. How to do development in the cloud environment.
A: Exactly the same as On Prem
    a. How to create new BC, BO, Link,BS etc.
    A: Same as On Prem
    b. If I want to create a new WSDL for external integration, who to create it?
A moving to OCI does not change this either. How ever you did it in On Prem is fine
    c. Any Siebel configuration and integration task which is associated with generating new WSDL?
    A: Same answer as above
    4. How will the new WSDL be deployed on the cloud server?
    A: Same answer as above
    5. How to migrate development WSDL to QA and Production environment?
    A: Same as On Prem
    6. How to build and use RESTful service in Siebel IP16?
    A: Same as On Prem

Bottom line here is all that is happening by deploying in OCI cloud is you are leveraging Compute as a Service for Siebel. This is the same exact product being deployed as On Prem so nothing changes other than the nuance of how OCI works. For more information on how OCI works or DBaaS work, just go to cloud.oracle.com and check out the documentation on the Infrastructure or DBaaS services.
