Using ADF with PeopleSoft - Web and Mobile Clients

Shay Shmeltzer
Director of Product Management - Oracle

One of the areas that got a bit more attention this year at Oracle OpenWorld is the usage of Oracle ADF to build new interfaces to existing applications and for Oracle Apps Unlimited specifically.

The basic idea is that you can access data and functionality from your existing applications and develop either rich web user interfaces or interfaces for mobile devices using JDeveloper and Oracle ADF.

Here is a little demo that I did in one of my sessions showing how this works when accessing a Web service exposed by Peoplesoft.

By the way - if you want a more native looking iOS application you can use the skining capabilities - see the way it is done in this demo with EBS.

Another great post Shay, nice and too the point, makes mobile development so easy. One question, is there a way to make the UI look more like a native Iphone application. It looks still looks like the desktop application, which some people may want. I'm just wondering how to make it look like an iphone application, do you use a different view technology instead of trinidad, or is there a stylesheet to use?

Orlando, You can use Trindad's support for skinning to get a native iPhone look and feel for your application. A good introduction to this is this article: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/articles/huang-iphone-097081.html

Thanks Shay, that looks cool, I was looking at developing iphone apps using Apple Dashcode tool, but it's great I can continue to use jdev for mobile development as well.

    Hi Shay,

Video is amazing. I had a question though.

If I want to update the data thats fetched from Get Operation, how do I achieve it.

Meaning how do I consume get service operation and at the same time consume update operation?

    Please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Nandu

Nandu - this video shows how to combine two web services to achieve an update operation:

    Hi Shay,

Is the Oracle ADF compatible with PeopleSoft Financials and PeopleTools 8.49? I would like to create a mobile app for ios and Android.

    Thanks,

    Rob

    Rob,

ADF doesn't care which PeopleSoft version you have at the backend - the communication is done through standard web services - so any version will work with ADF as long as it can expose those services.
