Oracle Announces Significant Acceleration of Oracle® Database 11g Release 2 Transparent Data Encryption on Intel® Xeon® 5600 Series Processors

Today we announced significant acceleration of Oracle® Database 11g Release 2 Transparent Data Encryption on Intel® Xeon® 5600 Series Processors based on our supports for Intel's Advanced Encryption Standard New Instructions (Intel AES-NI).
Although the overhead of database encryption using Transparent Data Encryption is imperceptible to most Oracle customers, overhead is still overhead, and faster is always better. And by taking advantage of the new cryptographic hardware built into Intel's Westmere processors, we can now speed up encryption processing rate 10x and decryption processing rate 8x.
And of course it's all still transparent - the database and the processor all work seamlessly to perform the encryption and decryption operations. Read the full press release here and download the Oracle Advanced Security Resource Kit to start encrypting your data today.
