Reducing Wasted Logistics Road Miles: A New Report from IGD

Some 78% of retailers and 71% of suppliers believe reducing road miles to be either “the biggest” or “a significant opportunity” to save money in their supply chains. That’s according to research via IGD’s Efficient Consumer Response (ECR) UK board for a new initiative to encourage industry to drive down wasted transport miles.

ECR UK’s Reducing Wasted Miles program has been developed by food and grocery training and research charity IGD, to provoke dialogue and change within the industry and provide insight into how businesses can work together to deliver more efficient transport and logistics networks.

Bimbo SA is a leader in baked goods and produces over 10,000 products including breads and cookies. They operate a distribution network with over 52,000 routes and more than 2.2 million points of sale located in 19 countries.

Oracle Wins 2014 Supply Chain Software of the Year Award

During the recent Supply Chain Asia Awards, held on November 20, 2014 in Singapore, Oracle was presented with the 2014 Supply Chain Software of the Year Award.

Finalists for this award category included Oracle, SAP, Manhattan Associates, AEB and JDA.  The event was attended by 300 C-level professionals from the supply chain and logistics industry.  This is the second consecutive award for Oracle.

Other winners included Agility Logistics, Cathay Pacific Cargo, Changi Airport Group, DHL, Harley Davidson, Kuhne + Nagel, Port of Singapore and Toll Logistics.

Oracle Transportation Management Gets Things Moving

Mutual Materials, a leading manufacturer and distributor of masonry products in the Pacific Northwest, has recently implemented Oracle Transportation Management and achieved some impressive results.

Their truck utilization went from the low 60s to 85-87%, the cost of using their fleet is down by half a million dollars, and they have saved about $1M by more efficiently moving goods within the internal supply chain.
