New solution from Oracle for project managers and planners to enhance collaboration and decision-making

When most people think of a supply chain they think of a manufacturing supply chain where a product is designed an launched and built thousands or millions of times. But there is also a section of industry where the products are one-off, very complex, and are only built one time. These are project supply chains.  Traditional manufacturing supply chains are well understood and well supported by supply chain software. Project supply chains are understood, but have not been well supported by software tools.

Project managers have traditionally used PERT and GANTT chart software (like Oracle Primavera) to manage their projects, but they haven't had access to modern supply planning tools like Oracle ASCP or inventory optimization tools.  This is no longer a problem, as Oracle has introduced the Oracle solution for Project-Driven Supply Chain. The new solution integrates Oracle Value Chain Planning and Oracle's Primavera project portfolio management solutions to help organizations better align material planning, decision-making, and execution throughout the project lifecycle.

By integrating Oracle Value Chain Planning and Oracle's Primavera project portfolio management solutions to deliver complete visibility into projects, the new initiative helps organizations balance and adjust material and manufacturing capacity decisions to better adhere to project milestones and avoid unexpected delays and costs. In addition, integration with Oracle E-Business Suite allows team members to make preemptive and accurate project decisions regarding schedule delays, cost overruns, or wastage by providing a real-time view into business information, including interactive charts and metrics.

But looking in the backyard now, while all my neighbors’ gardens are flourishing, mine only shows a handful of green tomatoes, unhealthy squash, and fist-sized watermelons. This happened last year, too. After all that springtime effort and investment, this is maddening!

My Fruit & Vegetable Development Problem

My garden can be described with one word: meh. My frustration reminds me of the challenges that product development executives share with us in early meetings – unable to achieve their expected return, inconsistent product information, can’t produce the final product on time nor on budget, not sure what caused defects, no way to tell if a project is bad and needs refocusing or abandoning, and so on.

What’s Happening?

Growing delicious vegetables from seed takes more than... [Read More]
