Supply Chains: Disasters Just Waiting to Happen, Are You Ready?

Today's Journal has an informative article on how companies are using new techniques to support thier supply chains. Disruptions seem to be everywhere these days, from 15' of snow in Alaska and closed waterways, to floods, storms, volcanos or even the high cost of fuels. Many organizations are using new information technologies to help drive better decisions around these issues such as dual/multi-sourcing, postponement strategies and advanced analytics to take the proper countermeasures in the event of a disruption. Think of what Walmart, Lowes or Home Dept does when a storm approaches - How they move plywood, duct tape, water and generators into the area. link to article: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970203436904577150803868408054.html
