Today Oracle officially released Oracle Transportation Management and Global Trade Management in the Oracle Cloud. These are the same market leading applications that have been available on-premise for over 10 years. New customers will be able to deploy rapidly and leverage the power of Oracle with no up front investment. Existing customers will be able to convert their on-premise licenses to cloud. All cloud customers will benefit by using Oracle hardware and data centers. System management, maintenance and upgrades are all included. Be sure to read the press release.

Computing is moving to the cloud, and supply chain applications are no exception. Some applications are more cloud friendly than others. Forbes recently blogged about an SCM World study that classifies applications based on their cloud friendliness. As you can see, a TMS is about as cloud friendly as you can get. Mutual Materials, a leading manufacturer and distributor of masonry products in the Pacific Northwest, has recently implemented Oracle Transportation Management and achieved some impressive results.
Their truck utilization went from the low 60s to 85-87%, the cost of using their fleet is down by half a million dollars, and they have saved about $1M by more efficiently moving goods within the internal supply chain.
