I just realized that it was 50 years ago this month that I wrote my first computer program.
It was for the IBM 1401 in Autocoder. I was 18 (July 1962 do the math). Ouch!
I took a class during the summer after my sophomore year in college. My regular summer job fell thru and my Dad knew someone, etc. I took the class on a lark, but it did interrupt my plan to read all of Aldous Huxley's novels on the beach. I guess the rest is history. I started my junior year with a part-time job in the college computer center (IBM 650) writing FORTRAN. In '65 I had my first full-time job as a programmer at the NYU computer center in Greenwich Village. You never know where a lark will lead, I guess.
