Yahooing from NetBeans

Guest Author

Did you know that there is a Yahoo chat plug-in for the NetBeans IDE? If you are a Yahoo user you can chat from NetBeans and forget your old client, because the NetBeans plug-in has lots of cool features:

  • Chat
  • Add/Remove Friends
  • Offline messages List
  • Status Messages (Custom status message is pending)
  • Emotions

You can get the plug-in from the new plug-in portal on netbeans.org. Yes, in case you haven't noticed yet there's a new plug-in portal on netbeans.org which has features such as rating, comments - and most importantly it is now easy to submit your own plug-in, so if you created any plug-in for NetBeans please submit it. And yes, this is going to be a replacement for nbextras.org, it will be possible soon to access the new plug-in portal through update center - it is in the works now.

Here are some screenshots of the Yahoo plug-in:

Wow. I can't believe how broken the plugin portal is.
I'm sorry, I don't want to be rude, and I really want to like it. I'm very excited by it.
But it just doesn't seem to work with tabs very well, at least not with konqueror. With most web sites/links I can middle mouse click to open a link in another tab. But with the plugin portal, it insists on opening in the same page. If I right mouse click to get my popup and choose "Open in Another Tab", it'll open the same page in another tab, rather than the link I've chosen.
In addition, the links from the Recently Added encroach upon the links from the Top Rated column.
In firefox, if I use my middle mouse button to open the link in a new page, I get the same old page. It does open the same old page in a new tab, which konqueror doesn't do.
Seems like the plugin portal is following the good advice from the java posse about ratings and such.
It looks like it has a lot of promise and I'm excited by that. It had seemed to me recently that there had been a lot of plugins released last summery but not that many recently.

I have forwarded your feedback to the creator of the plug-in portal. Hopefully he can address these issues. Thanks for the feedback!

    Thanks Roumen.
Didn't want to be a whiner, I really like the new pages, and I really enjoy netbeans.

The plugin portal is still a bit buggy...why does maven show up three times? Other similar problems. Category formatting on the right is a bit confusing. Great idea, mostly just some cosmetic changes and bug squashing afaict. Thanks.
