This is how I risk my life to evangelize NetBeans...

Here's a picture from my morning flight from Cologne on Czech airlines "jungle aircraft"... of course I am just joking that I risk my life, I am sure these propeller aircrafts are pretty safe... they just jump a bit more during turbulences.

Propeller aircrafts are by far the funniest way of flying! :-)

Nice photo. I tried to take a picture similar to this on the tarmac at the airport in Bangalore, India. I almost got arrested!! Something with cameras, planes, and security that they don't like. You only have to worry about prop planes if they have duct tape on the props.

Adam: It's the terrorist threat in India (thanks neighbour), plus the fact that some airports in India are also defence work grounds.

Roman: Couldn't agree more. I was once on a harrowing prop plane flight dead in the monsoon. These things are worse than gliders IMO.

Roumen, that looks like an ATR-42 aircraft. They are pretty sturdy, with very powerful engines. Yes, they tend to shake more when passing through turbulent air, but that's due to its relatively small size. They are ok. I admit though it can be scary, especially if you sit in row 3 or 4 and the propeller is just outside your window... But for feeling unsafe nothing beats an Yak-40, not in my experience. It's engines seem so weak, it's a wonder it takes off. The ATR seemed like a sports car compared to Yak-40 (the old car)...

I sat right next to the noisy propeller :)

Duct tape... on my first trip to India, well, it was essentially my first time in the 3rd world and it felt like I'd been in a land where nothing worked and everything was crumbling. I've now been to India 3 times and I understand it better now. Anyway it was fitting on my flight out that... I leaned back in my seat looking forward to modern life again (flying through Singapore) and I noticed the panels above me (India Air) were held together with duct tape.

hehe, visit to Mongolia, you'll see more strange things there

PS: that one is very safety airplane btw :D

Indeed looks like an ATR-42 -- very safe aircraft. I miss flying props. Yeah, I've had the occasional, um, inflight illness on rough prop flights over the Rocky Mountains. We're all so used to flying at higher altitudes that we miss out on a lot of that turbulence. But you do feel like you're flying, they make a wonderful noise, and they're far more fuel efficient.
