IDE Shootout - First Of It's Kind...

Guest Author

Next week I am flying to Cologne, Germany for the IDE shootout event. It is basically a shootout of four IDE's: NetBeans, Eclipse, IntelliJ IDEA and Oracle JDeveloper. I think it is going to be both fun and also very interesting - I don't remember having four evangelists at one event doing head-to-head presentations. Thanks go to Michael Hutterman who is organizing this event. I hope Michael that you will wear your funny hat from Java One :)

My colleague Tinu wrote a very nice article about the event - check it out. I think that my laptop can fly very well (and yes I do need a new laptop so I'd be happy to use it, hehehe).

P.S. I am available on Monday and Wednesday if any NetBeans enthusiasts want to meet for a beer and friendly chat - drop me an e-mail if you're interested.

    Hi Roman,
I'm happy to have such an event in Cologne.
www.jugKoeln.de was started around 1999 and since 2002 I hosted the webspace in calmer times before Michael Hüttermann made a new start with JUGCologne.org in 2006.
I'm one of those, who like to meet you for a beer etc.

    Hi Roman,
I actually presented at a Java Users Group early this year in upstate New York, USA where we had a NetBeans 5.5 versus Eclipse 3.2 shootout. We called it 'Dueling IDEs' since we had 2 projectors and put the IDEs against each specifically in the Java EE 5 realm. Needless to say NetBeans 5.5 smoked Eclipse. It was a great time and next year I hope to do it again and add other IDEs.

Thats unfair 3 JetBrains against 1 NetBeans, 1 Oracle and 1 Eclipse
Well i bet Roumen will be able to represent well the NetBeans Community and make the other guys be pleased with Netbean's six
With the improvements of the editor ( finely Eclipse guy's can SHUT-UP a little ), also the performance improvements of Visual Web, and Mobility Pack with the new stuff like Visual Game Builder etc, not that i know\\like Ruby, but i have heard that NB6 Ruby implementation is one of the bests out there
The c++ pack is going good, finely we can have it on NB6
Its time to companies to know\\understand that NetBeans Plataform is great for create app's on top of it
    Netbeans to rock the world

Adam, good - I am aware that there are other events with IDE shootouts, but I think it's the first time to see four IDE vendors at one stage.
Ifnu, I am not organizing the event, maybe there could be even video - I'll check with Michael Huttermann from JUG Cologne.
Porfirio - yes, we have what to show off with :)
