Visual Web Pack Opensourced

Visual web pack is one of the last pieces of functionality whose sources were not available (historically the sources come from a closed source product called Java Studio Creator). As reported by Winston Prakash, around 14.000 files have been processed an are now available in NetBeans source repository. The build instructions are here, but the team is now in the middle of transition to new editor infrastructure so it may take a while till everything works properly.

The more interesting features will come in future milestones - M8 and later: visual WS and EJB data binding, support for portlets, support for migration from Creator 2 and more. The plan for NetBeans 6 is also to unify many of the parts of the IDE which were different in NetBeans and Creator.
Comments:

Hi Roumen I've got the following problem: I want to have an ejb-module and a vwp-module in an enterprise application. At netbeans 5.5 there exist the problem, that the app server or some libraries (in other discussions they talked about 3rd party libraries) don't release the lib/\*.jars of the vwp module under windows --> so redeploying fails. I read that glassfish v2 M4 solves a lot of problems. But this one needs netbeans 5.5.1 and doesn't support vwp yet (or did I missunderstand something???). So my workaround (until the releasing problems are solved) would be: deploy the application to another subdirectory in the /domains/domain1/applications/j2ee-apps directory. example - 1st deploy: /j2ee-apps/myApp_1 2nd deploy: undeploy j2ee-apps/myApp_1 and deploy j2ee-apps/myApp_2 and so on. that works and uses always the same resources and context path. After several deployments stop the app server and delete the old directories. Now I want to automize this procedure in the build file with a counter. Unfortunately I don't know exactly where in the enterprise app. Could you help me? Thanks & greets Lars
