Sun and Intel

Big things are happening at Sun today - Sun and Intel announced strategic agreement. Intel endorses OpenSolaris, open Java and NetBeans (great!) as a part of the announcement. More info at Sun.com.
Comments:

Roumen, I am very astonished that there is no mention of the Harmony-JVM project in Sun's press-paper. Intel is the most active company being involved in making Apache's Harmony-JVM. Sun not mentioning Harmony at all is kind of impolite towards Intel.

The announcement discusses what Sun and Intel will cooperate on. So I don't really see why should Harmony be a part of the press paper - the paper discusses what Sun and Intel will do together in the future (and probably because Harmony is not a part of the agreement, it is not mentioned).

I hope this Netbeans endorsement works out better than the one from Oracle - http://news.com.com/2100-1007_3-6031288.html. ;-) Ah, tonight I'm a bit in flame mode. But anyway, even as a devoted MyEclipse user, I like Netbeans to be around because its competition pushes Eclipse forward. Off-topic: One thing I'd like to know from Sun is how much money they invest into Netbeans and how much revenue they get from it. I assume that Sun loses money with Netbeans, but since this is a fight against evil-evil (IBM and Eclipse), this could be ok for Sun. Now Jonathan Schwartz promised to at least break out software revenue in the financial results a year ago (http://www.itworld.com/AppDev/716/060106sunsoft/), but this doesn't seem to have happened yet - there's still just "products" and "services" listed (http://www.sun.com/aboutsun/investor/earnings_releases/pr/2007-q2.html).

Hi, Karsten, it's always nice to see your sceptical point of view :) Sun made profit in last quarter, so the company turned back to profitability. Check out the financial results, they are very good! And NetBeans community keeps growing. Cheers!
