Dude, don't be ridiculous. Get to know Eclipse or IntelliJ. NetBeans is dead, it is just dead. This is the first thing to go after the board throws out McNealy and JS. NetBeans is simply not up to par.

You should get better informed. NetBeans trippled it's user base in past year. Do you consider a product which is gaining many new users dead? Why do we get good reviews in magazines? We're exactly opposite of being dead :-)

Is that just another way of saying "we are alive"? :) Btw, love NetBeans! I used to use Eclipse but got tired of having to always set up all those plugins to get basic functionality. NB is just great with what it provides out of the box. Also, the fact that Sun uses NB as a base for their Java Studio is IMO a good sign that NetBeans is alive and kicking.

Yes, the opposite of dead is alive ;-) A lot has changed since the old 3.x times... not only the product, but also the atmosphere in the development team. Sure, there's huge amount of work ahead - but I feel good about the direction we're heading.

Roumen! How NetBeans are with JDK1.6 ?? He run good or with has bugs a lot?

Posted by Giuliano Ribeiro on srpen 31, 2005 at 07:54 dop. CEST #

It runs quite good, there are some new bugs (e.g. problems with code completion on some versions of JDK 6) and some other smaller issues. Nothing that could not be fixed till release.

[offtopic] Guy, how can I disable Matisse in NB 4.2? Here my NB 4.2 is default enable! thanks

Posted by Giuliano Ribeiro on srpen 31, 2005 at 10:27 dop. CEST #

Yes, it's default on now. Why do you want to disable it? It should be enough to change the layout manager by right-clicking on the form.

Here in my little project the Matisse launch many exceptions and I can't edit he before! When I put a jButton inside other component here launch an exception and my project crash! :-( Only deleting the .java to I continue write my app.

You can use the older Q-build promoted before Matisse was activated. We're getting to bugfixing phase soon, so the IDE will be much more stable after some weeks. I suggest to use an older build if you want to use 4.2dev in production, there were really many commits recently which may cause unexpected behaviour.

god. windows vista sure is ugly. osx had those translucent windows broders for a bit, but got rid of them very quickty because they were so pointless and messy.

I'd have to disagree; I think it looks damn good. Really aren't all design features pretty pointless? Nothing that makes an OS look good is really essential to how it works. It is all just eye candy =P
