NetBeans Icons, Take 2

I have to admit I got used to the new toolbar icons in NetBeans 6 and I actually started to like them - I didn't like them at all in the beginning. There is an attempt to improve the icons, so I was wondering what the community thinks. The size has been decreased by 2px and some of the childish icons were changed. The new design is here.

I like the icons... except for the "Cut" one. The scissors are just too square.

Much better, but I still like to use "Small Toolbar Icons" :))

I agree, the scissors are a bit weird. As for small icons, people can make them smaller easily :)

I like the new icons better. The scissors do look too wide and weird, it would be good to change them to anything else. :) Also, the use of "hammer" icon for "bulid" action is really confusing to me. To me, this hammer icon is "settings" not "build", and many applications I've seen use "hammer" exactly for "settings".

I like them better than the last ones. Feel cleaner.

Childish is ok. I think the future will be like this: childish-looking tools with childish-looking programming languages that will hide a lot of power. Hiding complexity is hard.

Definately an improvement, especially the "New Project" and "New File" looked off in the old one.

It really looks better. Java source code file icon should be changed also. Current icon is to too complex and it not much different with class file icon. Eclipse's 'J' icon is much simple and clear; why not we use 'J' too or just using Java cup logo? (Sun owns copyright, it's not an issue). Thanks.

Still i don't like the new icons. A bit improvement over the previous one, but still the new file, new project, open project icons look very awkward to me when compared to the current set in NB 5.5 The current icons in NB 5.5 are more professional and good looking. Tell me roumen, why you guys are interested in changing the current set of icons? Don't you like it? May be the current set of icons doesn't give NB a open source look. But tell me why open source projects shouldn't look professional?

I think that the icons themselves are ok (though something with more of a vector feel might be nice). However, I do think that there is an issue with the coloring. While the color of the icon, in this design, has meaning in the context of the individual icon. I think that it should have meaning within the context of the whole tool bar. It would make it less cluttered feeling and provide visual cues as to where the icons with the functionality you are looking for is located.

The only other thing that I can think of would be to make them context sensitive. The icons on the toolbar that are not related to what you are currently doing could desaturate. This would make the icons/buttons you are likely to use more obvious and apparent. Might be too much work for the payoff, but it would be nice.

New icons are much better indeed. But current NB 6.0 icons are terrible. I hope you will not release NB with those childish icons. I think it would prevent wider adoption of NB.
