NetBeans Has Local History!

I have many discussions with people all around the world and I hear often things like "I can't use NetBeans because my favorite XYZ features is missing". One of these XYZ features has just been implemented and it's called Local History. You can try it now in the "hot-of-the-oven" Milestone 7 of NetBeans 6.0. But that's not all, there's much more new and cool in Milestone 7:
  • Java Web Start support for Java SE Projects - JWS used to be available only for platform-based applications or via a plug-in, but now it's also a part of the standard version of the IDE for Java SE projects
  • Expression stepping in Debugger - allows more fine-grained stepping in large expressions
  • JBoss 5 support - although JBoss 5 is not final yet
  • Various profiler improvements
  • Subversion properties editor - to specify svn's properties
  • Redesigned icons - although many people will not consider this as an improvement :)
  • Report Exception from IDE - makes it easier to file bugs by clicking a button
  • CSS editor
  • GTK L&F enabled by default on Linux and Solaris - to make NetBeans looks nicer on these platforms
  • Editor improvements - some features are back and moreover new code generation features are available
  • Hints (quick fixes) for javadoc
  • New installer which lets user choose pieces he's interested in and perform the installation at once
  • More - see the whole New and Noteworthy page
To download Milestone 7 try the new installer (webstartable version of the installer is available, too). NetBeans 6 is going to be a big release!

Is it possible to have your jars signed for webstart deployment?

The merge of CDC and CLDC is also a great idea. And now , with the improved editor, vi support, what a pleasure to be blown away by these features !

I am not sure about signing of jars for JWS.

Alexis, JRuby is in the trunk. I have built my own build with JRuby support. It is now under heavy development (ask Tor :) I believe scripting languages will be available as a new add-on pack.

Yes, merging of CDC and CLDC is goodness.

Paris, watch this project for Struts 2 support in NetBeans.
