NetBeans 6 Feature Highlight: Duplicating Components

I plan to focus on various new and cool features in NetBeans 6 durign the "NetBeans 6 Feature Highlight" series. I think this is helpful for developers - you can learn about these new features in a more interesting way than studying the docs - you can see how to use the particular feature from the screenshots.

Today I decided to highlight the component duplication feature in Matisse. You can now select any component (or components using the Shift key) and right click to choose duplicate:

Now the panel is duplicated and the new panel is moved automatically to the correct position under old panel:

When I run the duplicate action again (on the first component!) it will duplicate it again but this time it will add it under the second panel:

In NetBeans 5.5 there was only very limited copy-paste functionality, which often broke the form. In NetBeans 6.0 the duplication features are more intelligent and you can save some time especially if you create forms with many similar panels or elements.

Comments:

Wow!! Matisse is going good!! I love the new features :) I have a suggestion: When i used VS or SharpDevelop, and when we go into create a project we can select to create a project with a Form So you just create the project and you can run it, without set up nothing Of course for me i have no need for that, but i have talked about Java+Swing+NetBeans+Matisse to some ppl and when they go to test it, they dont find it, then i have to say for they create a General Project and then add a JFrame and set it the main class etc Well in NB6 we have the application project, wish creates a Form automatic, but you should add another application to the list that will create and empty form based on application framework See i create a application project, but i dont need menu and my toolbar is diferent, i have to delete everything and then start the form Netbeans is already a good IDE for newbs and for ppl that came from VB Delphi etc... ( Compared with Eclipse wish is a damn pain to a newb to understand how to compile the project etc, i love ant! ) still some more work could be done to make it even more user friendly ;)
