NetBeans 6.0 M5 Is Available

NetBeans 6.0 Milestone 5 is available and you can get it from netbeans.org. You need to choose "Q-Build" of 6.0 to download it. I am wondering why we haven't changed the "Q-Build" name to "Milestone" yet... I find it quite confusing.

Milestone 5 is a "big bang" for NetBeans, because the editor infrastructure has been replaced by new editor infrastructure. Many modules from the J2EE area are disabled and we don't recommend to use the milestone for production work, however you can try out the new features, which are really really good. They include:
No milestone 5 for profiler and mobility pack. Lots of modules are now adopting to the editor infrastructure changes and the whole IDE will be stabilized in future months. All modules will be rewritten to the new API so they can take advantage of the new features.
Comments:

A feature that I have noted on M5 was the code generation, and it is not on the NewAndNoteWorthyMilestone5.

I have blogged about that in <a target="_blank" href="http://blog.claudius.com.br/blog/claudio/NetBeans/?permalink=NetBeans-6-milestone-5.html&smm=y">my (sorry) portuguese blog. There are <a target="_blank" href="http://blog.claudius.com.br/resources/claudio/061121_nb1.png">some picture <a target="_blank" href="http://blog.claudius.com.br/resources/claudio/061121_nb2.png">that speaks <a target="_blank" href="http://blog.claudius.com.br/resources/claudio/061121_nb3.png">for itself.

Hurray! Netbeans 6 rocks! (Btw, I am consistently getting an Assertion error when I am trying out the smart code completion with Generics. I am trying to use it to get the following code line:
Map<String,List<String>> someMap = new HashMap<String,List<String>>();
Should I file a bug for this. Can I file bugs on Q-Builds?

Claudio, yes, this feature is not mentioned. Rohan, please file a bug. As I said, the builds are quite unstable now... thanks for helping us improve the quality!

Ufff, the HTML syntax is marked "allowed". So see below the same text, without the HTML

I have blogged about that in my (sorry) portuguese blog [1]. There are some picture that speaks for itself [2,3,4]

When can the most elementary refactoring features ever be implemented!??? (Things like Inline method/varible) What's the plan for 6.0 on refactoring/jackpot?

Are there any features similar to eclipse mylar planned for 6.0. http://www.eclipse.org/mylar/

Claudio, yes, this is a pretty useful feature ;) As for refactorings, they will come back as they are rewritten new infrastructure. Jackpot will be used as a basis for code generation. Tighter Jackpot integration is also in the plan, including more Jackpot rules. As for Mylar-like features, I am not aware of any such project at the moment.
