Leaving Sun

I have decided to quit Sun Microsystems. I spent amazing 5 years at Sun and I am very grateful for all I've learned with the company. Working on both NetBeans and OpenSolaris adoption was real fun so I leave with very mixed feelings.

I am going back to Java developer business and will be going to Java One with my new employer, so you will find me in the Java One pavilion area if you want to say hi. I wish my Sun colleagues good luck with their new adventures!

P.S. Thanks for all the beans.

Hey Roumen

Your persistent, polite and enthusiastic promotion of NetBeans is one of the reasons I even started to consider it seriously again (after dropping it in the 4.5x timeframe). Class act! Best of luck wherever you end up next!

Cheers
Patrick

"Your persistent, polite and enthusiastic promotion of NetBeans is one of the reasons I even started to consider it seriously again (after dropping it in the 4.5x timeframe)."

The above statement PROVES that bloggers DO have an impact on the adoption of NetBeans IDE! Bye Roumen! You're the only reason I started blogging at all, as you know. Stay in touch!!

Thanks Patrick! Geertjan - keep blogging and see you soon :)

I hope you enjoy great success in all your future endeavors, Roumen. You have been a potent advocate for Sun technologies, and your absence will be felt.

Hello Roumen!

Strange times, times for change! Your contribution to the Netbeans Community and Netbeans adoption is something that Sun will always have to remember.

You set the standard for what we call efficient evangelist - being helpful for the community and at the same time efficient for Sun.

It was always a pleasure having you here in greece talking about Netbeans and I will always remember these times!

It is really great that you will be around the Java world and we are looking forward to here your new...projects or assignments1

The greek netbeans community and the java hellenic user group, wish to you...good luck.

Greetings from Athens, Greece

I am also looking forward to it. Although I learned so much during one year of my "low level" OS journey - it was also good :)

Hy Roumen,

Good luck with your new job !

You were "on fire" during the NetBeans days and I haven't followed your OpenSolaris work, but I'm convinced it was top-notch.

Hi Roumen,
I was sold to netbeans by your fantastic screencasts and demos. Whenever there is a new netbeans release, I never forget to look out for Roumen's demos. We will miss you Roumen. We will miss the famous sentence "Hi, I'm Roumen Strobl from Sun Microsystems" in the future netbeans screencasts.

Wish you the very best for all your future endeavors.

Posted by James Selvakumar on květen 17, 2009 at 08:26 odp. CEST #

New people will come with new screencasts... Fabrizio, yes, I will still be based in Prague.

Roman, I still remember meeting you at the Sun Tech Days in Hyderabad! Your sessions on NetBeans and your overall involvement with the community has been amazing. Your blogs and screencasts have been a great help and your presence here'll be terribly missed.

Hope you carry on your involvement with NetBeans in some shape or form, nonetheless!

Wishing you lots of success...

@James: +1 on that, James. Had got used to the famous opening lines from Roman :)

Cheers!

If it wasnt for your awesome screencasts, I would probably not have considered Netbeans and Visual Library.

Thanks for all of the great stuff and HF GL in the future.

I'd like to thank you for your passion, enthusiasm and competence in providing the community with first-class webcasts, podcasts and meetings on NetBeans. I personally appreciated them a lot. And, to be honest, the main reason why I decided to move to NetBeans was you: I knew that if I had a problem, I could count on you. Thanks Roman and... good luck!

Hi Porfirio, I was blogging less in last year because I was working on OpenSolaris, so I was blogging on a different blog at Sun. So I will become now more visible in the java world.

Posted by Roman on květen 18, 2009 at 05:37 dop. CEST #

Roumen, I'm \*very\* sorry to hear that. I always enjoyed your webcasts and working with you in the NetBeans context.
All the best for you and I'm sure your new employer is very lucky.
