I would definitely love to come. It would be a great opportunity for all CAs to interact and learn from each other.

I wonder what is the intention of the conference is? It sounds like fun but (aside from being out of the country during those dates) I will no longer be a CA after this semester. Would be good to clarify what would be the benefits of attending and if CA-alum are allowed to attend (or is there any incentive for them to?).

Sorry, I am a CA in China, because the cost will be huge and I can not bear it, though it's a good chance to study and make friends.

I would love to come to a Campus Ambassador conference in California. If the costs were offset by a sponsor it would make it easier for more of us to travel, especially the international ambassadors. Airfare, lodging, and food (plus a conference fee) seems to be quite a bit to ask for. Just my opinion though.

I'm Ezequiel Singer, from Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina. I would love to meet all the ambassadors in California. My only "but" is how much the airplane ticket would cost. I don't care about food and reservation, but for me the airplane ticket is to expensive to affort it

Hi Daniel,
unfortunately I would not be able to make it - this great (potential) conference is beyond my financial scope as I from Czech Republic.

I'm a CA from Hungary and I would love to come, it only depends on the cost. It would be great if you could do an example list about the prices there (hotel rooms, food, etc) because I don't know them and I would like to calcute the inclusive cost including airplane ticket etc.

Thx and regards,

I would love to meet all of you young and clever CAs from around the globe AND see the Sun head quarter, but the plane ticket alone would be around US$ 1000 :-(

Thanks for the replies guys. I checked some flights and I do see it would be extremely expensive to fly in from outside of the United States (it's even expensive to fly to California from within the country in certain places). I hope to get some sponsors to help pay for some of everybody's individual expenses, but it's unclear whether or not that will happen.

However, I did receive an email from somebody at Sun saying that we could use either Sun's Santa Clara or Menlo Park Campus facilities to hold the conference and charge it to his department, if we get enough participation. He also said he could pay for one or two meals (with the same condition that there is enough participation). I'm hoping we will get more support like this if there is enough Campus Ambassador interest. So even if you think it might be too expensive, please still post a response if you're interested in a conference because you might not have to pay the full cost of the trip if we get enough support. In addition to direct financial support, with enough people we would probably be able to get indirect support in the form of discounts. For example, we would probably be able to get a decent hotel room discount with enough people. I know these things are only of marginal use to CA's outside of the U.S. as the major cost is airfare. I hope to get some help with this too, but I don't want to get anybody's hopes up. This will probably be the determining factor in whether or not the conference will be held, but it also seems to be the most difficult to address. I will look into this, and, if anybody has any suggestions, I would much appreciate that as well.

To answer a couple questions (Chris and Marc):
If the decision is up to me (which I hope it is), CA alumni are welcome and encouraged to come. I will ask about this though just to be sure.

Also, if this is held we will have to be sure to record as much of it as possible so those who cannot attend can at least watch it on video.

To clarify, it appears as though there will not be a conference fee as the venue will be payed for if we get enough participation. Also, the meals and hotel room will be cheaper than if you were traveling alone. I will try to get more precise numbers soon.

Hey, definitely interested here.

It'll be a very exciting meeting. My friends who study in US told me that the trip to US from Asia and come back will cost more than 1K USD, but they can get a great discount if they book the tickets very early. I think any CA who wants to join this meeting should make arrangement as early as possible. : )

The return fare from Ottawa to San Jose during that time is around $640 (which is a lot). But i'm willing to spend around $400 for this purpose.

Hi, I like the idea, this is a good way to meet each other and share ideas, make friends but I'm from Mérida, Mexico and like many CAs its a little expensive pay for the air tickets. I can spend a little of money and I can go by my self to Tijuana if anyone is interesting to pick me up there XD hehe =D.

But I was wondering about the papers, you know that little thing called visa, i don't have one and i think maybe many people interested in the conference neither, and I know to get one sometimes you just wait a long, long time to get it.

Posted by Ricardo Cabrera on April 07, 2008 at 04:05 PM EDT #

I would be much interested in attending this conference, the reason for that is we could get some insight into how other CAs are handling stuff, we could also try and introduce what we learn at the conference into the curriculum of academics ,back home!!!!
But the problem again is that of the travel fare!!!Its too expensive to travel from India to USA.
I hope we get sponsorships :-)

Hi, I'm Ario Santoso, CA from Indonesia. Actually, this is an interesting event. Because I can meet all of the ambassadors. besides that, it's also a good chance for me to study and make friends. but maybe the cost to attend this event is so high, and it's not possible for me.

Anyway, for your survey purpose. This is a great and interesting event, and I really interest on it.

Hello from Greece!

I am Anastasios from Athens. It is a wonderfull idea to arrange a meeting. Finding sponsors to help us, would be great. I think, if we solve the "cost issue", we will organize a great event!

I would also love to attend such a conference and meet all the CA's at one place in California! I am also eager on speaking / holding a workshop at the event. The only problem is travel expense. The only possibility I see is that, We could probably hold a conference in each seperate country around the same time.. :)

Hi, I like the idea, but I also hope, someone gives us some money.

Posted by Igor Geier on April 07, 2008 at 10:19 PM EDT #

I think this is very interesting, but it would be way too expensive for me to fly all the way to California, unless it is subsidized :)

Hello to everybody,
My name is Mercedes and I have the privilege of being the first Sun CA from Spain (Tarragona) ;-)

What a wonderful idea Daniel!! I would be able to make it during the dates described and I would love to meet all the ambassadors in California. The problem is the airplane ticket, but I would try to pay a part...

Maybe the rest of "continents" could organize another similar event...

Thank you for your effort Daniel!!

I am very interested in this meeting. I've never been to the USA
before, which is so amazing, so maybe there will be a lot of touble. I
cannot estimate the cost, even the travel fee is huge for me in China.
Thank you!

Daniel, this seems like a wonderful idea. It would be nice to put a picture to some of the faces I interact with. However the cost of travel and lodging is too expensive and thus its out of my budget.
