Mike Mulkey worked closely with Oracle Solaris and Intel engineers to provide a technical guide for developers and system administrators that explains how to use the capabilities of Oracle Solaris to optimize the scalability, performance, reliability, security, power efficiency, and virtualization of applications running on Intel's new Xeon processor family (5600 and 7500).
We've been working with the Intel engineerings for almost 3 years now to integrate Intel's Xeon capabilties with key Oracle Solaris features and frameworks:
- FMA -- understands the Xeon memory topology for DIMM diagnosis and page retire
- Solaris Power Aware Dispatcher (PAD) -- has increased awareness of these Intel Xeon
processors, allowing threads to be scheduled according to the power state of the processor
- Solaris Encryption Framework -- automatically uses the hardware acceleration provided by the Xeon processor 5600 series
Other Oracle Solaris integration activities include memory placement optimization and threading model enhancements.
