New Sun SPOT pricing

David already beat me to the announcement, but here's the scoop.

We are running low on Sun SPOTs... in fact we are sold out in much of the world. We are working feverishly to get our inventory back up, but that isn't the news today. Stay tuned for more on that later.

The real news is only relevant for those in the US today because there are still a few Sun SPOT kits available in our US store. However, this new pricing (modulo currency exchange rates etc) will affect everyone. We are announcing a single price for both retail and educational purchases. This should be of particular interest to hobbyists who, until now, have had to pay full retail price for Sun SPOTs. Now full retail price is just $399.00 for the complete Sun SPOT Java Development Kit (this used to be $750). The kit includes three devices (a base station and two "free-range" Sun SPOT devices) as well as software, documentation and a few accessories.

Sun SPOT Dev kit now $399 for everyone!

Head over to the store and grab one now. This is a great chance to take advantage of the new price on the existing kits. I'm pretty sure that this inventory will run out before we get our new build in, so if you are looking to get a kit in the near future, now is the time.

Comments:

Hahahaha, that sounds more like clearing old inventory before shutting the warehouse.

US price 399$
JP price 76000yen
Current exchange rate: 1$ = 89.9yen
JP price 850$ IF THEY EVER HAD ANY.

Forget it, I have better things to waste my money on than unobtanium.

It's been a while; semester is starting here anew.
Can someone indicate when Oracle/Sunspotworld
(/anybody open source \*completely\* including CAD
files & device programmer loads & source, if
necessary!) will have Rev 8 available for purchase?
We've been waiting over a year, IIRC for new production.
At some point, even folks with as big a pool (200+ devices)
as we have are going to get tired of cannibalizing & sticking
in the replacement batteries I helped get available before
the purchase of SUN by Oracle in as replacements.
Info, please!
