on the recommendation of my chinese tutor and also my brother david, i've been listening to pimsleur mandarin courses for a couple of weeks. i listened to them on the flights to and from the states, whilst i was there, and, now that i'm back home, on the walks to and from work. i think that i'm picking the language up a lot faster than i was previously, although, well, that isn't setting the bar too high.
i was listening to a lesson today that was talking about how to ask directions to college road (xue yuan lu), when i saw a street sign and realized that i was walking on it. that was a really cool feeling.
not as major as spending time in the armenian quarter of jeruselum, which had great significance to me as both a jew (agnostic/reform/whatever) and an armenian, or king solomon's mines... which was satisfying from both a masonic and jewish perspective, but certainly a moment i will remember.
speaking of masonry, i just became a life member of my lodge. i felt it was a good way to support the lodge and the craft, not to mention avoid having to deal with yearly membership dues.
