In my previous post on new Chart features of OBIEE 11g, I covered the Chart Zoom feature. Another exciting new feature for charts and graphs is the Chart Slider feature. This feature allows a column prompt to be displayed as a slider and the user can use the slider to “slide” thru the specific values of that column, changing the chart view for each value.
To setup a Chart Slider you will need to place the column you wish to “slide” on in the Chart Prompts region within the Chart View. You do this with the Answers Analysis Editor. To add a slider to the chart, place the column in the Sections region and check the 'Display as Slider' option within the Chart view, resulting in the adding of the chart slider to the chart as show below.
By moving the slider, the user can slide to a particular year and view the details for that year.
OBIEE 11g also provides the option to animate a chart my “playing” through the entire list of values for the slider via the “Run” mode. To animate the chart in the example above, you click on the “Run” button and the chart be animated through the various months with a small time delay between each month.
