SOA Architect of the Year

Ross%20Stores.PNGThe winners of the seventh annual Oracle Magazine Editors’ Choice Awards were recently announced, and Himanshu Parikh, Director of Enterprise Architecture and Compliance at Ross Stores, was selected SOA Architect of the Year. I have had the pleasure of working with Himanshu on the Oracle Retail Technology Customer Advisory Board (Tech CAB) for several years, so I know its well deserved.

What has really impressed me about Himanshu is his practical approach to solving business problems with technology. He and his team methodically identified the integration issues that were most impactful to the business, then set about leveraging Oracle Fusion Middleware where they could get the best ROI. They created an architecture that integrates Oracle Retail applications with non-Oracle applications in a manner that supports business agility and still maintains all the "ilities" required by IT.

As an observer, I would say Himanchu and Ross suceeded because they chose a strong technology platform, ensured the projects would significantly impact the business, and enforced best-practices through training and governance. Congratulations.

Comments:

You may enjoy a 45 min. webcast at ComputerWorld of a presentation by Parikh and Oracle's Jeff Pollock of May 2008, at http://www.oracle.com/newsletters/information-indepth/fusion-middleware/may-08/soa.html. This is mainly around the SOA Suite with Oracle Data Integrator.

Parikh also spoke at OOW08, "Ross Stores Blueprint for Growth on SOA", and at OOW07, "A Real-World Example: Integrating Applications, Using Service-Oriented Architecture", but unfortunately these presentations are not on the OOW archives.
