Mobile Phone POS

One of the trends I saw at NRF was using mobile phones as a POS much like Apple does in its stores. I've talked about Square before and saw similar solutions like VeriFone's PAYware Mobile and mophie marketplace. These iPhone solutions include a case that wraps the iPod/iPhone with a magstripe reader and barcode scanner plus a POS application.

But these are standalone solutions that seem best for small retailers. On the other hand, InfoGain showed me something they're working on. By partnering with the same hardware and software developers that worked on Apple's solution, InfoGain has created a mobile POS on an iPod Touch that is integrated to Oracle Retail's POS. This wasn't really a stretch since Apple's in-store POS is an early version of the 360Commerce POS that Oracle acquired. Soon retailers will be able to offer the same experience that Apple affords its customers.
