Test your generators!

While we are experiencing record high temperatures this summer in California it is time for a friendly reminder: CHECK YOUR GENENERATOR! Also, while you're at it, check your fuel supply, transfer switches, batteries, air conditioning units, and any other infrastructure which may support your services. You don't want to end up like MySpace. Note that I say services above by intention. I recall a local hospital being without power due to the generator running out of fuel and failing shortly after the start of a power outage. Imagine your shock if your loved one is in the intensive care unit and the hospital power goes out for a long time. If your loved one is a computer, then you are a geek, but still check the emergency power sources regularly.
For those keeping score, the ranch was a sweltering 112 degrees (F) last saturday. That isn't a record high for us, though it is very unusual. More unusual is the humidity. Normally, the air is very dry in this region of Southern California, but this year we've been getting a lot of monsoonal flow from the Gulf of Mexico. It reminds me of living in Alabama, but the native Californians are not amused.
Keep cool, if you can.
