Long time no blog.
As many of you already know, I've moved from Sun's systems management marketing team to Sun's identity management marketing team. I'm working on Sun Java System Access Manager (AM) and Federation Manager (FM), which are part of the Identity Management Suite.
My biggest impression of this space thus far is it's standards obsessed. I've imbibed so many standards over the last few weeks that I'm hungover. It's been one big standards drinking binge. ("Could I have a pint of WS-FED followed by a shot of ID-FF please?)
In terms of the products, I feel very excited about what Sun is offering in the market today and what's to come. I'm also impressed with how easy it is to install AM and FM. These products are so easy to deploy your Grandma could do it (Note to Reader: Grandma = Marketing Person) ! We deliver the product as a WAR file so all you need to do is download the WAR, deploy via your favorite appserver, configure, and log-in.
To help demonstrate the ease of deployment my new friend Pat Patterson provided me with a few screenshots of him deploying AM on his local laptop. He did the install and configuration while having an IM discussion with me over a 15 minute period. (I think he was juggling at the same time too, but that's just rumour.)
Check out the screenshots below and then pick up the phone and make a call to your Grandma. She misses you and wants to know why you haven't called.
1. Download Access Manager WAR file.
2. Deploy AM WAR in Your Favorite Container
3. Invoke AM service once Deployed and complete the one screen configuration page.
4. Log-In to AM and begin playing.
5. Pick-up phone and call Grandma
