I just discovered a web site called shadows.com. It's exactly what I've been thinking about for the last year or so. It seems to be delicious carried to the next level. I have heard a lot of opinions about how it's morally wrong to attempt to create a predefined set of tags, but I don't agree. It's morally wrong to claim that your predefined set of tags are the "one true way" to organize the universe. If you acknowledge that your tags are an arbitrary attempt at grouping, then I think predefined sets of tags have a lot of potential for good. We'll see if shadows.com goes anywhere. Please no flames about how it's all written in ASP.NET and because I work for Sun I shouldn't encourage them. Although for the sake of honesty, I did get a system error dumped to me screen when I tried to register. And another system error dumped to my screen when I tried to modify my account settings. In both cases, the site seemed to do the right thing, so I'm up and running. You can check out my nascent home page on shadows.com.
