Following the budget announcement by the Government of Western Australia, the Department of Finance published Amendments to The Payroll Tax Act of 2002 and Payroll Tax Assessment Act of 2002, establishing a tiered payroll tax scale. The change, which comes fully into effect in 2021, means businesses will only start paying the tax when the total amount they spend on employees hits $1 million, instead of the current threshold of $850,000. From January 2020, the threshold will be raised to $950,000.
