In the United States, Congress recently introduced the National Fab Lab Network Act of 2018, proposing a federally recognized network of linked fabrication labs across the country to help democratize access to advanced manufacturing techniques. “Fab labs are important in bootstrapping the innovation economy,” says Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL), who introduced the legislation in April. “My hope is that startups with good ideas can use fab labs to prototype fast, present something to potential backers, and get companies off the ground.” More at congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/house-bill/4948.
