Profit magazine, November 2010: GM OnStar's Stellar Service
By Aaron Lazenby on Oct 07, 2010
The latest issue of Profit is now online!
For a number of reasons, this issue was originally designed as the "Innovation" edition: to showcase some of Oracle customers' most creative use of the technology, to begin the rollout of Oracle's Fusion Applications, and to introduce the iPad version of Profit (available on iTunes soon).
But something surprising happened along the way. I started uncovering automotive companies that were doing very interesting, advanced work with Oracle software and hardware. I would not have guessed it when I started, but in the November 2010 issue of Profit, the automotive industry and innovation are synonymous.
Please make special note of a new, reader-submitted column called "Luminaries" that shares some of the innovative ideas being discusses in the greater Oracle community. Please connect with me via Twitter (@OracleProfit) if you are interested in contributing to the February 2011 issue, with will focus on supply chain and manufacturing.
Here are some November 2010 highlights:
GM's Stellar Service
General Motors' OnStar is a driver's link, via the touch of a button, to a customer representative at any time of day or night. But OnStar IT leaders, to lay a foundation for expansion into China and other global markets, needed to abandon a brittle, point-to-point architecture and adopt a flexible, efficient SOA with the ability to add new services in weeks instead of months without rewriting code from scratch. Learn how Oracle helped OnStar through the biggest IT project since the service's inception, and laid the groundwork for future expansion.
