Buildings and construction are responsible for nearly 40% of carbon dioxide emissions. That’s why leading architect firms in the United Kingdom joined Architects Declare, pledging to share knowledge, minimize waste, use greener materials, and more. So far, nearly 500 firms have signed the pledge, and the pledge is inspiring others, such as structural engineer David Knight, who wants his industry to make a similar commitment. “We are very good about patting ourselves on the back about the small steps that we make,” says Knight, Cake Industry’s director of design and engineering, “but if we really want to make a difference, then we have to change.” More at architectsdeclare.com.
