A Strategy for Cloud Success

Accenture takes a holistic approach to Oracle Cloud solutions, helping clients migrate and manage in a hybrid world.

February 2015

Organizations are increasingly realizing the cloud’s ability to transform their business beyond cost-saving and speed-to-market benefits. In order to embrace digital transformation, chief information officers (CIOs) and chief executive officers (CEOs) must map out a strategy that lays the foundation for a more agile business. Stephanie Arnette, Accenture managing director, Oracle Cloud, and Aaron Wright, Accenture senior manager, Oracle Cloud, discuss how Accenture helps clients map out a cloud strategy with Oracle’s suite of cloud applications.

Q: What challenges are enterprises facing in this era of digital disruption?

A: Companies need to be able to adapt, respond, and deliver faster than ever to meet the growing demands of their customers. Cloud solutions can enable small players to become big players, allowing them to scale quickly without the burden of heavy investments in enterprise IT resources. Large enterprises need to now compete with these smaller, more agile competitors.

Our clients are also looking to modernize their enterprise solutions—many of which have been in place for decades. The cloud provides a path to facilitate ease of use, access from various locations and devices, improved social and collaboration capabilities, and leading business process practices built in—while also providing increased business agility and cost savings.

Q: What trends are you seeing with customers and the cloud?

A: Confidence in the cloud continues to grow and large enterprises are realizing the tangible benefits from moving to the cloud. Our clients want to transform into integrated digital enterprises taking advantage of virtualized computing models and services. Clients continue to demand secure solutions that provide industry and competitive differentiation.

CEOs want speed to market, agility, and scalability—with a consumption-based cost model that can flex as their business evolves. They want innovative services that can be delivered across a myriad of mobile devices. The question of widespread adoption of the cloud is not “if”—it’s “when,” “by how much,” and “how fast,” and what it means for existing investments already made in core human resources (HR), enterprise resource planning, and customer experience systems.

Q: What is Accenture’s approach to Oracle Cloud solutions?

A: Accenture takes a holistic approach to Oracle Cloud solutions, helping our clients migrate and manage in a hybrid world. We help organizations address both the technical aspects of moving to the cloud and the organizational, business process, and governance impacts that help realize the value of moving to the cloud. We provide robust Oracle Cloud solutions by bringing together our knowledge and innovation in technology, strategy, software as a service, digital services, the Oracle stack, and extensive industry experience.

Accenture’s Cloud Strategy solution helps leadership teams make sense of the cloud in the context of strategic business decision-making. Our solution addresses the business value of cloud adoption, implementation scenarios including risks and benefits, and the technical implications of the cloud along with its impact on the enterprise. Accenture can help leadership teams develop critical cloud computing insights consisting of:

Cost impact: Assessment of total cost of ownership (TCO) reduction in IT when adopting the cloud and the impact on the balance sheet (operational expense benefits of the cloud)

Business impact: Identification of business opportunities “in the cloud” and possible disruptions during cloud adoption, along with calculation of cloud-enabled time-to-market gains

Implementation risks: Guidance on strategic decisions on security of data, which applications are suitable for a cloud environment, regulatory restrictions, and operational readiness required to operate in the cloud

With these areas thoroughly examined, Accenture can help leaders develop and implement a roadmap to:

Optimize existing IT: CIOs should develop ways to leverage IT capabilities to provide more efficient and flexible services to the business.

Improve current business processes and models: Cloud services can be deployed to change the way business processes are executed and unlock previously constrained opportunities. In order to perform at a high level, CIOs should address governance, the organizational model, sourcing, and vendor management.

Create new cloud-enabled business models: The CEO and senior leadership team should view the cloud as a way to explore new business models that surpass the limitations of traditional models.

Q: Does Accenture’s approach only apply to enterprise transformations or does it support tactical solutions as well?

A: Our clients often have an urgent need for a point solution and are increasingly turning to the cloud to address these needs. This could result from an existing system that is nearing its end of life, or a business need for a quick solution at a departmental or regional level. Accenture has developed a variety of offerings that can help deliver solutions quickly. Our fixed scope offerings for Oracle Cloud applications can help deliver capabilities that our clients are looking for and can be used as a complete implementation, or the first step in a journey. We help our clients realize quick wins and return on investment that address specific business requirements, and may free up resources to support business change in the future.

Q: What key measurable results have your clients achieved when implementing a cloud strategy?

A: Accenture has extensive experience with Oracle Human Capital Management (Oracle HCM) and has helped many customers achieve results with Oracle Human Capital Management Cloud (Oracle HCM Cloud) in the areas of talent management, core human resources, and compensation. Customers have improved their employees’ experience by reducing the need for human intervention and increasing the adoption of self-service HR processes. Managers have been empowered with embedded analytics, driving faster decision-making in areas such as getting approvals for promotions and transfers. The talent management solution has also allowed HR managers to monitor and understand attrition rates, identify low performers, have a deeper knowledge of their talent and what they need to succeed, and develop a plan to move resources around to achieve better results.

With the help of Accenture and Oracle HCM Cloud, organizations have been able to supplement antiquated systems and replace manual processes with intuitive and easy-to-use, flexible tools. IT departments have seen a reduction in the need for IT support and have reduced the complexity of their data and integration architecture.
