Profit: What is the significance of the decision to align Hyperion user groups with OAUG?
Wagner: Many OAUG members, particularly those using Oracle E-Business Suite Financials, are also Hyperion users, so there is important synergy among these groups of users. Aligning these groups adds value by increasing the networking and learning opportunities available during any given user event.
DeLise: In the past, Hyperion user groups were mostly distributed, with some run by partner firms and others run by users. That local autonomy won’t disappear, but this decision adds a new dimension of unity to the groups. Now they will have a global, centralized home for resources and information.
Profit: What is OAUG doing to encourage and facilitate alignment?
Wagner: We’re encouraging the geographical user groups to include more than one track in the planning of their meetings. For instance, they might have a track for Oracle E-Business Suite and a track for Hyperion at one event, on the same day. This benefits Oracle Applications users and Hyperion users by giving them exposure to new product sets and new capabilities in one place. The mix of different experiences and abilities is always one of the most compelling reasons to participate in a user group.
Profit: How large is the Hyperion delegation within OAUG? Is it growing?
DeLise: We started last year with a meeting at Oracle OpenWorld with about 100 participants. Right now, based primarily on a word-of-mouth campaign, we have about 350 members. Now that the decision to align has been made, we’re devoting more resources to our drive for membership and expect to reach 1,500 by the end of the year.
Profit: Why should a business user consider participating in a user group?
Wagner: Well, I’ve never met anyone who has regretted the experience! Truthfully, the more effort you put into learning about the products you’re using, the more you will get out of them. Participating in a user group gives you access to information directly from the user experts, like the OAUG board members and staff who you can meet at places like the user group pavilion at Oracle OpenWorld. And it gives you a chance to mingle with people in your own industry and at your own user level to become more knowledgeable about best practices in your field or area of expertise. The more you learn, the more value the products have to you and the more value your organization’s investment will have.
Profit: What are some of the initiatives OAUG is working on right now for Hyperion users?
DeLise: Our focus right now is on creating a centralized home for Hyperion users. We have a terrific landing page set up already at hyperionsig.oaug.org/. We also have a SIG page, hyperionsig.oaug.org, where we’re always adding new information, including events, contacts, addresses for sites that are run outside our own community—anything that users could get value from. And we’ve created a team of people that we call domain leads. These volunteers are industry experts on the eight primary Hyperion products. Their role is to post content in the OAUG Knowledge Factory as well as provide overall product expertise to the group. (Membership in the OAUG Hyperion SIG is free.)
Profit: How will Hyperion user participation affect the COLLABORATE conference in May in Orlando?
Wagner: COLLABORATE is the largest user-driven Oracle event. Hyperion’s own former user event used to draw around 2,500 people, and we look forward to welcoming them all to COLLABORATE. The more participants, the greater the experience is for everyone. And it is a great opportunity for users to take advantage of the channels of influence and experience within Oracle that OAUG can offer.
