Debugging Data Issues in Financial Consolidation and Close

Thank you to Maggie Reed for the presentation on debugging data issues in FCCS.

The presentation  covers the following topics in detail and includes examples:

  • Selecting the Correct POV
    • Consolidating in the Entity Dimension
    • Eliminations
    • Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss
    • Cash Flow
  • Incorrect Data at Consolidated Levels
    • Ownership Data
    • Exchange Rates
    • Override Data
  • Out of Balance Causes
    • Metadata
    • Decimal Precision
    • Solve Order
    • EPU Set Up
  • Steps to Debug
  • Service Request submission requirements
  • Troubleshooting Performance Issues

Steps to Debug Data Issues:

  • Run Metadata Validation – Fix any errors
  • Ensure ComputeRates has been executed
  • Ensure that Ownership is set up correctly – check the flat structure for overridden default behavior to ensure that consolidation methods are carried up the organizational structure correctly.
  • Ensure that seeded metadata is in correct places
  • Ensure that all customer specific metadata has correct properties
  • Ensure that only one of the Equity Pick Up Consol Source data rules is deployed
  • Ensure that consolidation and translation have been executed
  • Get to Level zero input data to help isolate the cause. Parent level data can be misleading due to other calculation/causes

If you still have data issues after reviewing the above items, then undeploy/remove rules to determine if it is a rule issue:

  • Configurable Consolidation Rules
  • Insertion Point Rules (FCCS_10, FCCS_20, etc)
  • Configurable Translation Rules
