I also had a problem when extracting with 7zip after download. I tried again (not the download, just the extract) and it worked fine.

How did you create the Home page links overview? I am interested in knowing if there is a programmatic - or even feature - way to create the index.

I tried again for extract, still CRC Authentication failed....

All information related to the Sample App download can be found in the Deployment and the User Guide files that are part of the download section.

The Deployment guide should be reviewed first because it provides Step-by-step instructions for download and deployment. The User Guide provides info on the sample app and related contents.

Having problems unzipping the files from the OBIEE - Sample Application (V309 R2). I am using the 7z and I get a message cannot open file as archive

Re: problems with extracting zip content:

Ensure that the 5 x files are downloaded and saved into same directory.

Once download is completed extract the content for "" only.

The other files (.002 thru .005) are a continuation of .001 zip and will be extracted with it.

I am unable to Sign In to OBIEE Sample App v309 R2 providing Prodney/Admin123 credentials. I get "Unable to Sign In" error in response. Likewise I can not sign in with Weblogic/Admin123 either.

I can however log into EM and Console pages with Weblogic/Admin123 and I do see user PRodney under Users and Groups in myrealm security using Console to view it.

What could be going on that I can not login to Sample App v309 R2?

Posted by Kurt Mayer on March 14, 2014 at 06:49 PM CET #

Hi Kurt

To access the "Try It Live" online system, the login credentials "Prodney / Admin123" should be used

For the downloaded Sample Application Virtual Box image please refer to the User Guide PDF (section 1.5 page 6). This contains listing of login credentials for each module, along with URL/port numbers used.

The User Guide is available via OTN Sample Application website:

After downloading the zipfiles for the sample OBI installation, the first one won't extract. Zip managers don't recocignise it. The message is "can't open as an archive"

I find the filenames very confusing : (first) isn't an archive according to 7-zip. etc

why 2 extensions?

Thanks for the answer!

Hi Marcel,

For this Sample App version 309 R2 release the 5 x files downloaded would be named:
- through to extension ending .005

Once all 5 x files have been downloaded to the same directory, they can be extracted by either:

- Start the ZIP file manager program and open from within that product the first file named

- In Windows Explorer right click on and select the ZIP manager option from sub-menu (if installed by the ZIP Manager product).
For Example for 7-Zip installation, right click on first file, select 7-Zip > Extract to ...

I've downloaded this several times. After unzipping the zip.001 ...5 files they extract to a single zip file '' with no numbers, at around 19Gb instead of the vmdk I expected.
I cannot extract this file as it isn't recognised as an archive by 7zip or Jzip. I can mount the archive on gnome and browse to a VMDK file inside it, then copy it out but this file is corrupt and will not import into VBox.
Any ideas appreciated...

Posted by Dan on March 19, 2014 at 11:30 PM CET #

Hi Dan,

When extracting the a directory named "SampleAppv309R2-export" should be created. This directory will then contain the file "SampleAppv309R2-disk1.vmdk".

The 5 x downloaded files will total approx. 23Gb. The extracted .VMDK file will be approx. 59Gb.

Some items to check - the "SampleAppv309R2-export" directory was created when extracting; the 5 x downloaded files do total approx. 23Gb; sufficient disk-space to accommodate 59Gb extracted file.

Downloaded all files, extracted .001 file to a specified folder - once complete all I see is another compressed folder

No "SampleAppv305OTNGA-Appliance" folder created - any suggestions of where I'm going wrong?

Posted by Duncan on April 28, 2014 at 01:35 PM CEST #

Hi, I downloaded all files and installed the VM and SampleApp followed the steps from Deployment guide. Started all services and able to login with weblogic and not with Prodney user.

I am getting only SampleApp Lite version only, does anyone had the same behaviour? How to setup the full functional sampleapp repository?

Hi Dan,
I am also facing the same problem.
ownloaded all files, extracted .001 file to a specified folder - once complete all I see is another compressed folder

No "SampleAppv406-Appliance" folder created - any suggestions of where I'm going wrong?

Were you able to solve it ?

Posted by Manish on November 23, 2014 at 10:05 PM CET #

Make sure you on v406 of SampleApp rather than earlier versions (
Make sure you follow the steps in the QuickDeployment Guide exactly to download and then extract the zip files.
If you still have problems, let us know the exact commands you used to extract the zip files.
Are you using 7zip?
Also, if needs be, make use of the checksums.

I download the - in a single folder,Extract using 7zip.It created a folder named SampleAppv406. Inside the folder another file which is not able to extract.

Advice what else need to be done.

Posted by Matt on December 18, 2014 at 04:51 PM CET #

Hi Matt,

not sure what went wrong with your extract attempt.
The result should be the folder, with two files .OVF and .VMDK in it.
If you are working with a graphical frontend to 7zip, rightclick the .001 file and tell it to extract, create subfolders automatically. Just retested - and works ok for me.

I hope that helps,

Posted by Martin on December 30, 2014 at 07:42 AM CET #

All those who are facing problem with the extract with error messages like
1) "CRC failed" or
2) "Can't open as Archive" -

just rename all the 6 downloaded "zip" files to "", "" and so on till "". Then right click and via 7zip option select "extract here".

Once done it should extract all the files and should create a folder "SampleAppv406Appliance" with two files in it viz: SampleAppv406ga.ovf and SampleAppv406ga-disk1.vmdk
