OBIEE test case and support

If you have an issue with OBIEE and would like to raise this with support, then often you will be asked to install or demonstrate the issue using the OBIEE Sample App. The main reason for this is to have a standardized set of rules, views and setups that every participant is familiar with.
Chances are, that something that woks in the Sample App does also work in a custom App and likewise anything that fails in it does not need to be tested in a custom App. This makes it easier to reproduce issues, to identify issues and to log bugs against the product.

As there have been a number of questions like "How do I install the Sample App?", "Where do I find it?", "What to do with it once it is up and running?" Support has created a few KM notes to answer these issues.

  • OBIEE 11g: How To Provide an Oracle Business Intelligence Edition (OBIEE) 11g Test Case to Oracle Support (  Doc ID 1392643.1)
  • How To Install and Use OBIEE 11g SampleApp Or SampleAppLite Repositories ( Doc ID 1220543.1)

We hope that (with the information provided in the two notes) your communication with Support becomes easier and that you will be able to resolve your issues faster in the future.

Welcome our three new EPM communities

(in via Mel)

Upcoming Communities in the Business Analytics Area!
The big day is Thursday, January 31st when we say hello to 3 new communities:

  • Certifications for BI
  • Hyperion Certifications for EPM
(These 2 new Certifications Communities allow you to post your certification questions instead of logging a Service Request. So if you can not find your answer on MOS Cetrifications and need to know if Module X is supported on your desired OS - this is the place to go)
    and
  • BI Patch Reviews
(This new BI Patch Reviews Community allows you to discuss and share your experiences about a patch you have installed)

These communities are moderated by Oracle and we are looking forward to see you post your questions and help us build a strong community where you can collaborate with other customer, peers and Oracle.

Where to find them? Just go to:

http://communities.oracle.com

and log in with your My Oracle Support account.

We are looking forward to welcome to these new Communities on Thursday, January 31st.

Patching & Maintenance Advisor for EPM

(in via Greg)

Oracle Proactive Support is proud to announce another Patching and Maintenance Advisor note:

Patching & Maintenance Advisor: Enterprise Performance Management
(EPM) 11.1.2.x (  Doc ID 1517258.1)

This KM Doc takes you through the steps of evaluating, planning, testing and implementing your EPM installation.

It links out to all the "modules" different latest patch sites, with release dates and links to the patches (where available).

It features all necessary links to support matrices (supported platforms) / certification as well as valuable tips towards the patching process in general and helpful tips for your personal reference and system.

This could well be one of the most valuable "to bookmark" sites that KM currently offers in the EPM area. (in fact so valuable that we take this in our bookmark list in the blog :) )

While you may not need it today, I am pretty sure it will come in handy when your next system update is getting closer. So have a look, check out its features and enjoy the relaxed feeling of preparedness.

Something complex just got made easy.

reminder: 10 Jan 2013 - HBR to Calc Manager migration Advisor Webcast

To all those Planning Admins who are about to migrate to v 11.1.2.2 and need to migrate their systems from Hyperion Business Rules (HBR) to Calculation Manager:

We do have a Webcast about the migration on
Thursday, 10th of January 2013

Suruchi will present the process to you in a nice 45 minute session and as with all Advisor Webcasts we will have a brief Q&A session at the end to answer your questions.
You can find out more about the session in  KM Doc ID 1506296.1 or register directly at the  webex site.

As of our KM Doc:
"This one-hour session is recommended for technical Planning administrators. The focus will be around migrating the business rules from EAS to Calculation Manager. There will be additional information provided regarding how to approach troubleshooting in the event something were to go wrong."

You can also find other Advisor Webcasts on the general Schedule via KM Doc ID 740966.1
or more EPM related Advisor Webcasts via
KM Doc ID 1456233.1

Also a quick reminder to those who are not familiar with this:
ALL Advisor Webcasts are recorded and then uploaded (within 48 hours after the session).
You can find them via the above links in KM in the ARCHIVE section of the Schedule.
Additional the EPM team has introduced a new policy: each Advisor Webcast is accompanied by a community thread for Q&A for the people who missed the session or find themselves having questions while reviewing the recording. The thread is observed by the presenter, so that you are still able to get in direct contact with her.
