Oracle introduced a new concept of a converged database, which is a database that has native support for all modern data types (JSON, Spatial, Graph, as well as relational) and workloads (IoT, Blockchain, Machine Learning, etc.). It includes the latest development paradigms (Microservice, Events, REST, SaaS, CI/CD, etc.) within a single product that can efficiently run in the same database. This eliminates the need to deploy, manage, and synchronize specialized databases in order to use these technologies.
A good analogy is the smart phone. Not too long ago, music required iPods, pictures required cameras, and phone calls required a phone.
The smart phone converged all these products into one, delivering a cohesive and simplified solution that improved our quality of life. The same ease of use, efficiency, and convenience can be applied to Oracle’s converged database.
