Interaction Hub Image Now Available on the PeopleSoft Update Manager Home Page

As noted in a recent post, the PeopleSoft Interaction Hub is now part of the Selective Adoption Process.  You can get the first image now on the PUM home page.  (At the PUM home page, choose the PeopleSoft Update Image Home Pages tab, then select the Interaction Hub Update Image page from the drop down.)  This means customers can use the PeopleSoft Update Manager and our other life cycle tools to manage their upgrade and maintenance process for the Hub.  There is also a white paper posted there that describes the baseline customers must reach to start taking these images.

Note that this will be the only way for customers to take maintenance and updates going forward, so we encourage everyone to move to the Selective Adoption process as soon as is feasible for your organization. This move brings the Interaction Hub in line with all other PeopleSoft applications, which use the Selective Adoption process.  This process also offers customers additional value and control, and enables you to benefit from the value of the latest features with a greatly streamlined life cycle process.

For customers that are eager to learn more, there are many resources on Selective Adoption and PUM on the PUM home page as well as on our YouTube channel.

This first image of the Interaction Hub is functionally equivalent to the current release (9.1/Revision 3), but taking it gets you on the Selective Adoption process.  Some great enhancements are coming the the next image.

Important! PeopleTools Requirements for PeopleSoft Interaction Hub

The PeopleSoft Interaction Hub* follows a release model of continuous delivery.  With this release model, Oracle delivers new functionality and enhancements on the latest release throughout the year, without requiring application upgrades to new releases.

PeopleTools is a critical enabler for delivering new functionality and enhancements for releases on continuous delivery.  The PeopleTools adoption policy for applications on continuous release is designed to provide reasonable options for customers to stay current on PeopleTools while adopting newer PeopleTools features. The basic policy is as follows:

Interaction Hub customers must upgrade to a PeopleTools release no later than 24 months after that PeopleTools release becomes generally available.

For example, PeopleTools 8.53 was released in February 2013. Therefore, customers who use Interaction Hub will be required to upgrade to PeopleTools 8.53 (or newer, such as PeopleTools 8.54) no later than February 2015 (24 months after the General Availability date of PeopleTools 8.53). As of February 2015, product maintenance and new features may require PeopleTools 8.53.

Customers should start planning their upgrades if they are on PeopleTools releases that are more than 24 months old.  See the Lifetime Support Summary for PeopleSoft Releases (doc id 1348959.1) in My Oracle Support for details on PeopleTools support policies.

* The PeopleSoft Interaction Hub is the latest branding of the product.  These support guidelines also apply to the same product under the names PeopleSoft Enterprise Portal, PeopleSoft Community Portal, and PeopleSoft Applications Portal.

PeopleTools/Interaction Hub Dependencies Doc--Updated for Revision 3

The latest version (Revision 3) of the PeopleSoft Interaction Hub is now available.  Since Hub Revisions are aligned with PeopleTools releases, we provide a doc that helps explain how the Hub can best be implemented to take advantage of PeopleTools features.  This document contains information on how new customers can install PeopleSoft Interaction Hub and existing PeopleSoft Interaction Hub customers can apply PIH 9.1 Revision 3 functionality if they are on an earlier version. It also describes the general upgrade process within the Revision model, and how customers can expect this to work with subsequent revisions, maintenance packs, and bundles.

The document is available on the Portal Solutions home page in Oracle Support.

PeopleSoft Interaction Hub 9.1/Revision 3 Now Available

Peoplesoft is proud to announce that the PeopleSoft Interaction Hub 9.1/Revision 3 is now Generally Available for new installations. The release is available for download on OSDC or physical shipment through Customer Care.

Here are a few highlights of Revision 3.  See the Release Value Proposition and Release Notes for more detail on what's in this important release.

Branding

In PeopleTools 8.54, the Branding feature has been migrated from Interaction Hub to PeopleTools along with several enhancements.  However, there are still useful branding capabilities provided by the Interation Hub. In a cluster environment, the Interaction Hub will be used to brand across the cluster. The Interaction Hub provides a new Branding WorkCenter that can be used to create, manage, and assign role-specific themes. We've also delivered an “out-of-the-box” Hub similar to the one that is typically shown in our demo examples.

Fluid UX Support

The 8.54 PeopleTools release represents a landmark for PeopleTools and the PeopleSoft user experience. With this release, PeopleSoft introduces the PeopleSoft Fluid User Interface. The Interaction Hub provides some Fluid content like The Company News (news publications) pagelet.

Interaction Hub Cluster Setup Improvements

The Interaction Hub includes the Unified Navigation WorkCenter, which makes it easier for administrators to install, set up, and monitor the  Interaction Hub cluster with other PeopleSoft applications. The Unified Navigation WorkCenter also has a diagnostics page that provides
information on the In Network nodes and the SSO setup. This provides a central location for diagnostic and troubleshooting for the PeopleSoft cluster.

Content Management

Content Management is a powerful and popular feature in the Interaction Hub.  Revision 3 delivers a new WorkCenter that provides a simple mechanism to create and publish content. The WorkCenter guides the user through the content creation and publishing process.  Revision 3 also has an enhancement that enables the creation of Rich Text Editor (RTE) templates.

WCAG 2.0 Support

Enterprises and public sector institutions globally are conforming to accessibility regulations. Revision 3 enhancements make it possible for customers to deliver accessible content in the Interaction Hub. PeopleTools 8.54 makes it possible for PeopleSoft applications to conform to the WCAG 2.0 standards. In Revision 3, the Interaction Hub product conforms to WCAG 2.0 AA standards.

Where to Go For More Information

There is a lot of information available on this new release.  The following documentation is available on the Oracle Technology Network and my.oracle.support:

Continuous Release Model for PeopleSoft Interaction Hub

The PeopleSoft Interaction Hub has been on Oracle's continuous release model for some time now.  I still get many inquiries about this release model, though, so a refresher is in order.  The next release is planned to be made available soon after the upcoming release of PeopleTools 8.54.  This version of the Interaction Hub will be release 9.1/Revision 3.  You can read details of the continuous release model for the Hub in the last Statement of Direction and FAQ.  New versions of the Statement of Direction and the Release Value Proposition for the Hub will be published soon.

The current release model does not preclude us from producing a 9.2 or 9.3 release for the Interaction Hub at some time in the future.  For example, PeopleSoft's Campus Solutions product has been on continuous release for some time as well, but they recently announced that they are going to offer a 9.2 release, and this option is open to us as well.

New Doclet: Administering Search for Content Management Business Attribute Security in PeopleSoft Interaction Hub

PeopleSoft Interaction Hub now implements content search based on content management business attribute security when using the Global Search bar.  It also supports this search within the content management feature. For this purpose, PeopleSoft Interaction Hub delivers new search definitions, search categories, and indexes, which are described in this document.

PeopleSoft Interaction Hub delivers these new search definitions and search categories in addition to the existing delivered search definitions and search categories.  This document is a supplement to the existing search definitions and search categories and the steps for deploying them. For information on the existing search definitions and search categories, refer PeopleSoft Interaction Hub 9.1: Portal and Site Administration, “Understanding Search in PeopleSoft Interaction Hub” and “Administering Search Indexes.”  This document is applicable to customers who have implemented the content management business attribute security (CM002) and are using Oracle's Secure Enterprise Search with PeopleSoft, or customers who are planning to implement the CM002 feature and are using SES.

This paper discusses the following topics:
  • Configuring single signon for PeopleSoft Interaction Hub and PeopleSoft content providers.
  • Configuring unified navigation to federate portal registries from PeopleSoft content providers. Includes configuration and usage guidelines for unified navigation.
  • Configuring and synchronizing user roles and user profiles across multiple PeopleSoft content providers. Either the default or the configurable user profile synchronization can be used.  Changes to user profiles can be made in the following components: User Profiles, Distributed User Profiles, Change My Password, Expired Password, and Forgot My Password.
  • Synchronizing user personalization across multiple PeopleSoft content providers.  Changes to user personalizations can be made in My Personalizations, My System Profile, or both.

Updated Paper on Tools--Interaction Hub Dependencies

Releases of the PeopleSoft Interaction Hub are aligned with PeopleTools releases.  PeopleTools 8.53 was released recently and so was the latest version of the PeopleSoft Interaction Hub.  We are publishing updates for each release that describes how the Hub and Tools are aligned, and how customers can upgrade the Interaction Hub depending on what release of the Hub and Tools they are currently using. This short paper describes those dependencies.

New Red Paper on Setting Up PeopleSoft Applications with the PeopleSoft Interaction Hub

We've just published a new red paper that I think many customers will find valuable.  The paper is a practical guide for technical users, installers, and system administrators, who implement, maintain, or deploy PeopleSoft applications and systems. It describes how to use PeopleSoft Interaction Hub to federate multiple PeopleSoft content providers (for example, PeopleSoft Human Capital Management [HCM], PeopleSoft Enterprise Learning Management [ELM], and other PeopleSoft applications) into a single portal system using single signon and unified navigation.  The paper applies to PeopleSoft Interaction Hub 9.1 Revision 2.

There is guidance for the following topics:

  • Configuring single signon for PeopleSoft Interaction Hub and PeopleSoft content providers.
  • Configuring unified navigation to federate portal registries from PeopleSoft content providers.
  • Configuring and synchronizing user roles and user profiles across multiple PeopleSoft content providers.
  • Synchronizing user personalization across multiple PeopleSoft content providers.

You can get the red paper from Oracle Support here.

This paper supplements other information about the PeopleSoft Interaction Hub.  For example, it does not describe the installation instructions for PeopleSoft Interaction Hub and the PeopleSoft content providers. That information is provided in other documents.

Using the PeopleSoft Interaction Hub as a gateway to all your PeopleSoft applications (as well as other content), provides a rich, web site-based user experience that can rival any contemporary web application.  It makes navigation simpler, quicker, and more intuitive.  It is also more engaging for your users.

This paper should prove especially valuable now that more customers can install the PeopleSoft Interaction Hub under the terms of the new restricted use license.
