PeopleSoft Selective Adoption

If you are plugged into the PeopleSoft social media channels like our Facebook page, Twitter feed, and Linkedin development group or if you tuned into the Quest Users Group PeopleSoft Townhall featuring Paco Aubrejuan (Oracle’s Senior Vice President and General Manager of PeopleSoft Development), you likely heard us talking about “PeopleSoft Selective Adoption.” Maybe you are wondering what exactly that is; that’s where I come in. For some time now the PeopleSoft product team has been talking about how, starting with PeopleSoft 9.2, we are delivering updates on a continuous basis with new capabilities planned for delivery 2 – 3 times a year. But it’s not about us and what we are doing; it is about you – the customer. “PeopleSoft Selective Adoption” is the terminology we are using to convey what this new age of PeopleSoft delivery means to our customers. As a PeopleSoft customer on PeopleSoft 9.2, “PeopleSoft Selective Adoption” means:

  • You get new capabilities without the need to upgrade ever again.
  • You take only the changes you want, when you want.
  • You don’t need to be current on maintenance to take changes.

Your need to avoid costly and disruptive upgrades in the future and your desire to selectively adopt our continued PeopleSoft innovations – on your terms, drove us to this new model. This is possible due to new tools including PeopleSoft Update Manager (PUM) and new processes we have put in place. To truly maximize the benefits of “PeopleSoft Selective Adoption” your organization will need to change. Change how the line of business and IT work together to prioritize business needs, how it looks at maintenance planning, and how it executes the delivery of new PeopleSoft functionality. The PeopleSoft team has begun working with our customers to capture best practices, lessons learned, and guidance on how to best take advantage of “PeopleSoft Selective Adoption” and has published a white paper on this topic.

PeopleSoft Financial and SCM 9.2 Revision Release Available on OSDC

The new PeopleSoft delivery model enabled by the PeopleSoft Update Manager (PUM), means the continuous delivery of enhancements and maintenance via PeopleSoft Update Images. In order to assist customer who are deploying PeopleSoft 9.2 and ensure they get the latest and greatest capabilities the PeopleSoft team periodically plans on delivering Revision Releases. Revision Releases are a recut of the CDs for PeopleSoft 9.2 that include enhancements and maintenance through the most current PeopleSoft Update Image. Upgrade scripts are updated so that the Revision Release is the scripts target. What this means is customers who are just starting their upgrade or implementation of PeopleSoft 9.2 process can go directly to the latest PeopleSoft Update Image.

As of mid March, 2014 the PeopleSoft Financials and Supply Chain Management (SCM) 9.2 Revision Release (through PeopleSoft Update Image 5) has been available on the Oracle Software Delivery Cloud (OSDC) as well as for physical shipment. This recut CD for PeopleSoft Financials and SCM 9.2 reflects enhancements and maintenance through PeopleSoft Update Image 5, and includes both the English and Multilingual versions.

In addition to the application CDs, the documentation on OSDC and My Oracle Support has been updated to reflect changes through PeopleSoft Update Image 5, including the Supplemental Installation docs and Online Help.  The upgrade homepages on My Oracle Support reflect re-certification of the upgrade scripts through PeopleSoft Update Image 5:

10 Innovations in PeopleSoft 9.2 - #5 Optimizing Liquidity with PeopleSoft Cash Management 9.2

Liquidity is the holy grail of cash management. Optimizing liquidity is a daily challenge for Cash managers. They have to maintain that delicate balance between having enough cash to make their payments without having too much cash sitting idle in low interest vehicles. PeopleSoft Cash Management 9.2 delivers the much improved Cash Positioning and Forecasting tool to help address this challenge.

Residing in the enterprise makes it really easy for the Cash Position Worksheet to gather transactional data from the entire enterprise. Payments, Receipts, Purchase Orders, Payroll amounts are all directly accessible from Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable etc. Delivered views enable the Cash Position to access this data from their respective sources. This information is processed against the imported bank statement to get an accurate snapshot of the corporate cash balance position.   What about about the transactions that are not in PeopleSoft that you would want to be reflected in the Cash Position?  PeopleSoft Cash Management 9.2 delivers web services that allows third party data to be brought into the cash position very easily.

We also understand that you want to analyze your cash position across different parameters like Bank Accounts, Currencies, Business Units and more. Instead of creating different worksheets for each of these parameters, our Cash Positioning tool can slice and dice the numbers across four delivered dimensions of Bank, Bank Account, Currency and Business Unit. In addition, users can define their own dimensions for their analysis.

To round this off, there are representative charts to display your numbers on the Cash Position page; a trend analysis graph to show your numbers over the next month and a pie chart to show how the numbers are split up.

Salient features of this tool are

  • Single worksheet that gathers transactions from the entire enterprise
  • 7 day forecast in one single screen
  • Drill down to the transaction from the worksheet itself
  • Graphical trend analysis
  • Pre-calculated numbers that can be sliced and diced across various dimensions

The calculated worksheet can be used for several purposes –

  • Accurate Snapshot of Cash Balances
  • Comparison of Actual vs Forecast
  • What if Analysis with weighted changes to calculated numbers

Accurate, integrated, enterprise-wide cash forecasting is an ongoing challenge facing Cash Managers around the world. PeopleSoft Cash Management 9.2 provides leverage to the Cash Manager by providing a collection area for all banking activity, and that activity can be recognized as inflow versus outflow when it comes to cash. Optimizing liquidity is critical and it is now something that can be managed through PeopleSoft Financials.
