Refresh Your On-Premises and Cloud Databases to Regain the Data Advantage of All Your Transactions, Across Environments (CM11)

This article is the first in a series on some of the new features available in Cloud Manager image 11.

Cloud Manager Image 11 is now generally available! It is a holistic release with power-packed features that result in overall ease of use, deeper automation, and reduced operational cost. With the new Cloud Manager 11, you can refresh a managed environment from your on-premise environment or one in the cloud, backup and restore your managed environments, start/stop environments, and much more.

Let’s take a closer look at one of the most interesting features of the Cloud Manager image 11: the ability to refresh your PS_APP_HOME, PS_CUST_HOME and/or the Database with all customizations intact.

What Happens in a Refresh?

Do you often migrate data from production to dev/test systems? Cloud Manager 11 comes with a simple, yet powerful data synchronization method that allows migration of the transactional data and run-time across PeopleSoft systems preserving the target configuration.


How are Environments Refreshed?

The Cloud Manager Image 11 helps you to backup managed environments and configure source and target environments easily with few steps. Here are some advantages:

  • A complete backup of environments including PS_APP_HOME, PS_CUST_HOME, and Database with all the configurations intact.
  • An intuitive UI to configure source and target environments.
  • An option to selective refresh either the DBaaS or the Mid-tier or both.
  • Additionally, add user scripts that can be run before or after the refresh.

How Cloud Manager Helps You Do It

Let’s take a closer look at the two of the common use cases:

  1. Refresh on-premise source environment with the target in the Cloud
  2. Refresh cloud source environment with the target in the Cloud

Use Case 1: On-premises to Cloud  

In this scenario, your PeopleSoft production and pre-production environments (PS_APP_HOME, PS_CUST_HOME and the Database) are on-premises, while your test and data analysis environments are hosted in the cloud. It is paramount to get the transactional data in-sync across the environments for conducting tests and performing transactional data analysis when you need it.

After lifting the on-premise environment and using RMAN to back up to Object Store, Cloud Manager Image 11 enables you to configure the source and target database and/or middle tiers, along with all your customizations, through a very simple yet powerful UI. Additionally, you can add custom scripts and run them before or after the Refresh process.


Use Case 2: Cloud to Cloud

In this scenario, your PeopleSoft production and dev/test environments are running on Cloud. The backups of your PeopleSoft environments in Cloud Manager are stored in OCI block storage. APP_HOME and CUST_HOME binary data would be migrated to the target, preserving target configuration and user profile data.

Once you configure and trigger the refresh, the target dev/test database is replaced by a new database VM cloned from the production source.


With a few clicks, using Cloud Manager Image 11, you can regain the data advantage across environments in a simple yet efficient way.


Note: In order to perform a successful Refresh process, the PeopleSoft environments must be on Oracle Database service (DBS). Refresh is not supported for Compute service databases.
