Merging Learner Profiles in PeopleSoft Enterprise Learning Management

By: Rajarshi Garai | Principal Product Manager

Have you encountered a situation where your organization has both an external and an internal Learner Profile for the same person?    For example, a contractor who was originally added to your PeopleSoft Enterprise Learning Management (ELM) system as an external learner is now  hired permanently leading to the creation of an internal learner profile.  As a result, there  are duplicate active learner records and distributed learning histories for the same person.  In this type of situation, merging the duplicate learners manually is tedious and time consuming.  The Merge Learners feature enables you to merge the learning of an external source learner to a target internal learner, creating a single, unified learning record for the learner in your ELM system.

Merging duplicate learner profiles has never been so easy in PeopleSoft ELM.  Originally released in ELM Update Image 15, this feature allows you to set up your system for checking learner attributes -- specific to your organization -- to arrive at potential duplicate learner profiles. You can also indicate specific statuses for classses, courses, programs, and supplemental learning  that you want to include in the merge process. Once you successfully merge a duplicate learner profile  with a target learner profile, the former is made automatically ‘inactive’ in the system leaving only one active learner profile with the consolidated learning history. This feature will bring in a great deal of flexibility in the way you handle conversions of external learners to internal learners in the ELM system.
