Feedback and Questions from our PeopleSoft HCM Customers

Two weeks ago the PeopleSoft team attended OHUG and HIUG conferences. During our PeopleSoft HCM Roadmap sessions we had customers sharing their experiences with today's PeopleSoft HCM.

Special thanks to Baylor Scott and White, Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital, Northern Trust, State of North Dakota, and Thomas Jefferson University for being on stage with us to show and share what they have been able to accomplish with today's PeopleSoft HCM. Their testimonials were amazing and energizing. Our customers are already capitalizing on the benefits of PeopleSoft Selective Adoption and the new PeopleSoft user experience that can be delivered by adopting PeopleSoft Fluid User Interface (Fluid UI). Margaret Pellarin, Director Human Resources for Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital, demoed her own PeopleSoft Fluid UI Employee Home Page during our OHUG Roadmap session. Margaret said she has already seen the positive impact the new Self Service capabilities have had on her employee base and her organization has a very aggressive plan to keep deploying new self service functionality.

Our customers are going through a transformation process, the same way PeopleSoft is. I recently read an article regarding General Electric (another Customer I met with during OHUG) that made me think of how PeopleSoft has evolved over time. The article stated “At GE, we have stayed competitive for more than 130 years because of our relentless quest for progress on all fronts … a constant reengineering of our business portfolio, operating model, and culture has been a key to our evolution.”

I have been with PeopleSoft for 13 years now. The changes that have been introduced in our PeopleSoft technology stack and applications in the last 5 years are a clear demonstration of modernization and progress and are in my opinion unprecedented. We needed to change our business processes, from strategy, to development, to quality assurance to documentation. We needed to change the way we were doing things at all levels. We had to become more agile to respond faster to changes in the market. It has certainly been a cultural change and not different from what our customers also go through to respond to today’s business challenges.

In spite of all the great innovation, modernization and change in the PeopleSoft products, there are two questions that are always lingering in our customers’ minds:  “What is the future of PeopleSoft” and “Is there an end of life for PeopleSoft?” I got those questions several times during OHUG and HIUG conferences.

One of the reasons customers ask that question is Cloud. The message some of our customers are getting is that for them to respond to their business challenges and to satisfy the needs of their digital workforce they need to move to cloud. Cloud was one of the reasons why PeopleSoft needed to change. For PeopleSoft to remain competitive we also needed to address the business needs Cloud solutions are addressing: faster pace of innovation, lower cost of ownership, and a modern and engaging user experience. PeopleSoft leverages the R&D Oracle does for its Oracle HCM Cloud products and it's extremely beneficial for the PeopleSoft products.

Many of our customers are now running PeopleSoft on private Cloud and this allows them to take advantage of some of the benefits of a cloud type of environment while still having the ability to leverage their in-house PeopleSoft skills and knowledge. As I communicated during my sessions at OHUG and HIUG, our customers will soon see some amazing PeopleTools enhancements that will benefit IT groups who offer PeopleSoft services (being your own IT department or a Service Provider). They will benefit from capabilities such as auto deployment of test/development environments, auto scaling based on load, and more. There is no end of life for PeopleSoft and it is Oracle's intention to keep modernizing and innovating PeopleSoft so you can address today and tomorrow’s business needs using our products. More and more of our customers are now using PeopleSoft HCM and using Oracle HCM Cloud, because they are getting the best of both.  

Carrie Jo Howard, System Director at Baylor Scott and White, shared a very interesting story with the audience at HIUG. Carrie and her team needed to go through the HR software selection process twice. First when they were Scott and White and then after they merged with Baylor. In both opportunities, after detailed analysis they chose PeopleSoft HCM. Carrie shared with the audience at HIUG that although she and her team certainly liked the bells and whistles of some new software packages, they knew how strong PeopleSoft HCM was since they had already looked at it 'under the covers.' She also knew what they were now getting with the new Selective Adoption Model and Fluid technology that gives them the 'bells and whistles' her organization wants and needs. Baylor Scott and White also uses some of our Oracle HCM Cloud products that are integrated with Peoplesoft.

I encourage PeopleSoft customers to talk to other PeopleSoft 9.2 customers so you can get the information you need to make the right call for your organization. The PeopleSoft HCM team will keep working for and with you! Thanks to all our customer for the great conferences in Vegas.
