OpenSolaris 2008.05 + VirtualBox 1.6

For those who has to stick with Windoz for some specific applications, VirtualBox provides a nice solution:

The snapshot above was token on my laptop. And the VM runs in the seamless mode(under VM menu "Machine->Seamless Mode"). OpenSolaris and winxp are integrated together in a wonderful shape. Just notice that you need to install some extra stuff to optimize the VM's screen resolution: VM menu "Devices->Install Guest Additions...".

Guys, enjoy it!

Update: OpenSolaris 2008.05 is the host os, winxp is the guest os inside of VirtualBox 1.6:-)

Comments:

I prefer the inverse;

Run windows inside a VM on OpenSolaris...after I begged VMWARE for Solaris Workstation host for all of these years they have lost my business to Sun VirtualBox

Sorry for not making myself clear. On my laptop, OpenSolaris 2008.05 is the host os and winxp is the guest one:-)

Cool. In fact, with the seamless mode, is there any way to tell from this image which one is the host and which one is the guest?

I can spot two things but don't know how to explain them:

1. There's a VirtualBox icon inside the OpenSolaris panel. No idea if it's a sign of guest or client.

2. People familiar with font rendering in various systems may see something from the anti-alias effects.

Exactly. On the right-up corner of the screen shot, there is a VB icon in the OpenSolaris panel. It can tell that OpenSolaris is the host os in this case:-)

Hi!

For some reason the screenshot is now much bigger (1280 width) in your feed and breaks the layout of the BLUG Planet. Is there anyway you could fix this?

Thanks a lot.
