Meet the candidates
By Patrick Curran on Apr 15, 2011
There are currently four open seats on the JCP's Executive Committees and we will soon hold a Special Election to select replacements. Two of the seats are ratified (which means that Oracle nominates candidates and the voters decide whether or not to endorse them) and two are elected (any JCP member may nominate themselves for an elected seat.)
The vacant seats are:
- On the SE/EE Executive Committee
- Ratified seat vacated by Apache: term ends 2013
- Ratified seat vacated by Doug Lea: term ends 2013
- Elected seat vacated by Tim Peierls: term ends 2012
- On the ME Executive Committee
- Elected seat vacated by Sony-Ericsson: term ends 2011
The nominees for the two ratified seats are the Brazilian Java User Group SouJava, represented by Bruno Souza, and Goldman Sachs, represented by John Weir. JCP members who wish to nominate themselves for one of the two elected seats may do so until April 25. (See the elections page at jcp.org to learn how.)
When the nomination process closes, the election ballot (during which all JCP members are eligible to vote) will take place from April 26 to May 9. The newly-elected members will take their seats on May 10.
Oracle recently hosted a conference-call to introduce the ratified candidates to Java developers and to members of the current ECs. If you'd like to hear what Bruno Souza and John Weir had to say, and to hear how they responded to questions from the audience, you can download an MP3 recording of the call here (you'll need a java.net login to access it.)
We're planning to host another call after the nominations close to give you a chance to hear from the candidates for the elected seats. That call is scheduled for at 8:00-10:00 am PDT on Tuesday April 26 (watch the elections page at jcp.org for details of how to register for the call.) And when the time comes - don't forget to vote.
