Jive Clearspace is Great on GlassFish

Clearspace on GlassFish

Jive Software has powered Sun's Forums for years and has done an excellent job.  However, with emerging Web 2.0 technologies, collaberation software is changing -- and Jive is on top of it!

    Jive Clearspace on GlassFish

Clearspace is a new product from Jive Software that brings together blogs, forums, wiki, and more.  The integration of these features is so seemless you might not be able to tell them apart.  The User Interface is responsive and very intuitive.  Tagging is supported throughout the software allowing you to browse wiki's, documents, discussions, and blogs by tag -- popular tags are even suggested when you add new content.  All content can be rated by users, or users can leave comments on any type of content.  The full role-based administration is powerful, yet simple.

I just can't say enough about this cool product.  You need to try it yourself to see just how cool it is.

Below are the steps I took to get Clearspace running on my favorite application server (GlassFish):

  1. Download Clearspace (war file distribution)
  2. Put "jiveHome" directory where you want it (this directory is included in the download)
  3. Deploy the war file
    1. Goto GlassFish Admin Console: http://localhost:4848
    2. Navigate to: Web Applications -> Deploy...
    3. Select the "clearspace.war" file (included in the downloaded)
    4. Choose "OK"

      GlassFish Deployment

  4. From the GlassFish Admin Console, click the "Launch" link next for the clearspace application.

    Run Jive Clearspace

  5. Follow Jive's setup wizard and enjoy!

I hope you find their software as useful as I did!

Wow. Clearspace sounds like a heavy hitter in regards to web-based/web-integral technologies supporting and driven on user interaction. I'm not surprised to find that it's been programmed with Java :\^)

and you can download Clearspace? Awesome! This sounds like it could be some serious fun

I've been using Clearspace at work for a few months, developing potential solutions for a customer. Everyone seems to like the Clearspace app and interface.

They use an open model, with Spring, Struts2, pluggable authentication, customization, the ability to plug in your own widgets and macros, and so on. Can run on Linux, Windows 2003 server, SunOS, with postGres, mySQL, Oracle, MSSQL, etc.

Jive Software even lets you have the source code. Licenses are $60/user/year, but I think they have a 25-user minimum. You can download a free trial. FYI, I do not work for Jive.

Would you have a few favorite open source alternatives? that play well in a shared webhosting setting?

thanks :)
